I didn't really like the 4 actions a turn thing and the prizes needed some help . I really disliked the fact that there was only only four players. It looks like I will stick to playing for cash.
1) Yes and No ... I enjoyed the opportunity to play pure faction, but with the sealed portion I had to play other figures that were not pure to faction (I guess I could call them my allies / mercenaries) which I think kind of defeated the purpose. I also had a stange mix of figures from the 2 boosters and could not get closer to 200 than 176 ... very strange. With Sorcery coming out soon I also didn't really need to figures from the boosters. I would have much rather simply played a 500 point pure faction army from my inventory.
2) Except for 1 young guy it was very relaxed. I didn't sense that anyone was all that concerned about winning.
3) The domains were novel, but honestly, how many more domains do we really need ? It's like most of the LE's I've won ... most just sit on my shelf ... but hey, that's just me.
4) There was still cheese played. One guy played a Vith that was so tricked out it counted for most of the 300 points. He just wanted to see how uber he could make it. You can still have a single faction army that is cheesy.
5) I enjoy playing MK so I enjoyed the tourney. I would have prefered playing a 300 or 500 point single faction game using figures solely from my inventory without the requirement to fork over $45 between the 3 of us (mystelf and my 2 sons) to purchase 6 boosters .... but again, that's just me.
6) Expect to win ? I guess I expect either the DC or OK. It seems like they have the most powerful figures right now. The EF have the best calvary unit with the EL Skydragon (IMHO), but they have a somewhat weaker supporting cast.
7) No, I didn't expect to win. I no longer invest the time required to stay in a top competitive mode like I once did. I did however win the EF domain because I was the only person that played that faction.
Overall, it was fun to spend a few hours with my sons, but honestly a normal 300 or 500 point single faction tourney would have been good for me as well, and probably would have been more true to the "faction war" concept.
1. I think in the future, the rules shouldn't be so limited on the point values either way. You have to make a 500 point army, and you can use figs you have, and figs from the booster, but you must buy the two boosters. The 300/200 thing simply made things too odd.
2. It was ok except for one new player we had, he took 20 minutes a turn, but he's like 10 :P We all helped him out though, even the guy who lost the game because of it.
3. Truthfully, I don't think the prizes were very balanced. The drac/solo prizes were insane while the elves prize was...meh..
4. I used pure Dracs all the way through (throne monk, Drakona priestess, Pulled Chroma, and used Neapherus) and so did everyone else (Dracs, Atlantis, Elves, orcs)
5. It was mainly just for fun here, because we all knew we were gonna get SOMETHING, so it was good.
6. Dracs, because I was playing dracs :P Plus I got an insanely good pull (chroma+blade of dominance in same pack)
How did you pull a Chroma BoD from the same pact? Chroma = DR BoD = 2.0?
Anyway I played in 3 so we could get all the domains (which I did).
Had alot of fun because all the players said what faction they were playing so we all played different factions. I knew I would win one so when that faction wasn't being played I used it and won the cCodex,.... no one was uptight or stressed it was alot of fun.
To be honest, I really didn't like this Faction War.
Was this due to (1) the rules? No. I thought this was an interesting idea of having your core army marching to the battlefield and picking up some mercs along the way.
Then maybe it was (2) the atmosphere? The core group that plays is always in good spirits.
How about (3) the prizes then? Admittedly, the prizes for all of this month are a little lacking but with the release of Sorcery pushed back two weeks at least we're getting something.
(4) Armies/cheese? No more or less than what has appeared in the past.
(5) Overall feel? This may have something to do with why I didn't like this Faction War. Just not a whole lot of excitement/expectation this time.
Then it must have been (6) or (7) right? Nope, no big surprises there.
So why didn't I like this Faction War?? Out of the four venues in my area, the one I Warlord at was the only one to hold the event.
1) Did you like the rules? (the bring 300 pure factioned pre-constructed then buy boosters to add 500)
Yes, it worked out well.
2)How was the atmosphere? (overly agressive players that were no fun to play because all they wanted to do was win, etc.)
We always have one person who is hardcore for the prizes.
Unfortunately he didn't win...hee hee I stomped his army.
3)Prizes? (do you think they were good or lacking?)
Sure, I like the fact I am one of only a few in this area with these items already.
4)Armies? (Was the 300 pure factioned change some of the big use Cheese armies or did it balance the field a bit)
Overall I think they were a little more balanced. A lot of armies tend to be heavy range or heavy melee. This weekend they split pretty evenly half melee and half range.
5)Overall? (The overall feel of the whole thing)
I had a great time. Truly enjoyed it.
6) Who do you expect to win?
I am hoping Crusaders will win, but after winning last year everyone is pushing the other factions to stomp the Crusaders.
1) Rules: pretty great, faction pure made you think and helped to beat some cheese.
2) Atmosphere was great, everyone was very relaxed, no prize hoarders, and great close match-ups. 10 people showed
3)Prizes were great! I dont know why no one likes em. all the domains were great, they let everyoone (even inexperienced people) walk away with something, and who cares if you can pull the book in the set?
4) like i said before pretty balanced
5)got a great feeling at the tourny
6) I expected dracs, but Im hoping for BPR
7) won for the BPR
1) Did you like the rules? (the bring 300 pure factioned pre-constructed then buy boosters to add 500)
Answer: I thought this was a little....out of the spirit of the whole Faction War concept.
2)How was the atmosphere? (overly agressive players that were no fun to play because all they wanted to do was win, etc.)
Answer: That's really a matter of perspective. I went to 3 of the things and shelled a bunch of money out just to get cards, but didn't fault any one player who was disheartened by losing his only shot at the spellbook.
3)Prizes? (do you think they were good or lacking?)
Lamesness abound. Except for the Demonic Codex. I think this is a relic that you won't be able to pull in the booster packs....(?)
4)Armies? (Was the 300 pure factioned change some of the big use Cheese armies or did it balance the field a bit)
It didn't effect Cheese at all. Actually, it made Cheese more powerful. In the one play-to-win game that I was aggressive in, I used Throne Monk w/Galeshi Sunsword/Magestone Braces and Chroma w/Inferno/Magestone Bracers (or vice versa, I can't remember). I basically was able to fit these 2 in as my 300 points, then add 2 cavalry units (I pulled 2 of the cheaper ones), a Snow Centaur, and a Leech Troll. This made me able to support full Cheesiness with basers and healers. Kraft gave me a call the next day, asking me to be their sponsor.
5)Overall? (The overall feel of the whole thing)
Overall, it feels like I was being forced to buy out some of the remaining Dark Riders stock so the retailers can fit more Sorcery on their shelves. The cards really don't do all that much for the game.
6) Who do you expect to win?
Dunno. It's based on what faction you chose as a player, not what army you used. It's also based on the number of wins in the tournament, so there's probably a bunch of minor victories here and there. I figure maybe OK or DC.
1) Did you like the rules? (the bring 300 pure factioned pre-constructed then buy boosters to add 500)
I'm in favor of the 500 points of faction pure and the 700 point sideboard rules that they had for the MechWarrior faction wars... But...
I also understand why the MW faction wars were both a disaster and a success.
There's a delicate balance of keeping the venues happy and keeping the players happy. Cool events and prizes keep the players happy, but money is what keeps the venues happy.
For the MechWarrior faction war, the venues were asked to give away well over $100 of free merchandise. Yes, they got it for free, so they shouldn't complain, right?
But there was the other effect of the faction wars - a huge spike in turn-out. I personally went to four different faction wars that weekend, and I saw that over half of the players were ronin at the venues - never been there before, not part of the regular gaming communitee.
So venues were suddenly straining just to fit the huge boost in players. This would not have been bad at all, except two key details: They didn't buy anything that day, and they didn't come back and buy things later. So with more work not equaling more profit, venues were not happy at all.
Now, the faction war is used primarily to clear out old stock, as well as give the players a cool event. Because they no longer have the unique and his relic rule, every faction had a legitimate shot (although it was nice to see the Solonavi feel nerfed by their current lack of filler. Wait for Sorcery, and it'll change again).
2)How was the atmosphere? (overly agressive players that were no fun to play because all they wanted to do was win, etc.)
The first faction war I played at had a great atmosphere. We were all playing different factions, so there wasn't the cut-throat playing. Then again, there's almost never a cut-throat feel to that particular venue, which is a credit to the Warlord there (hey, nanodave).
The second faction war, someone else played my faction, so there was a little more competition. And despite a 400-0 point lead, I lost 1-0 on tokens. For the first time, I'm actually starting to think about the point values to tokens rule. Still, it was a blast of a tournament. My wife pulled War, and I got Chroma (both needs for our set). And overall, we added five solid relics that we needed (like monk's blade, MoM, Gatekeeper).
3)Prizes? (do you think they were good or lacking?)
As I mentioned earlier, I walked away with a Chroma, while my wife got War (and the High Elven Knight). I scored some of the locations, which are yet another encouragement of faction purity. One more domain like this, and I'll have a full set for tournaments (faiths, locations).
Also, people need to realize the rarity of the Demonic Codex. This is one of only two LE spellbooks, as in not in the boosters.
4)Armies? (Was the 300 pure factioned change some of the big use Cheese armies or did it balance the field a bit)
300 points was awesomeness. Armies were playing like they should. The Crusade had its revenent, the Solonavi had its big unique, the orcs had a small horde, and the dracs had at least three solid options.
5)Overall? (The overall feel of the whole thing)
I've got to hand it to WizKids, I think they've got the bugs worked out of the faction wars. They encourage faction pure play, they help move old stock, and they are able to produce cheap prizes to give some to everyone.
6) Who do you expect to win?
I really want to see the Dracs win this one. I think they deserve to roll in a low-rider floating city, complete with under-carage neon, hydrolics and a pimp Alpine system.
7) Did who you expect to win, win at your area?
Yeah, but that's me being cocky. Won the first tournament, but in the second one I lost to a huge crit hit (and to recover, I pushed to roll a 1 on the regen), and then I lost to a player that rolled six straight rolls of 10 or higher. I was getting really close to requesting a check of dice loads, because rolling like that is near impossible.
It was ok in my opion but I played the Elven Lords and could not use my Federian Stardawn Demo 01 figure which bit the big one for me. I still took four and a nice Elven Lords Domian
1) Did you like the rules? (the bring 300 pure factioned pre-constructed then buy boosters to add 500)?
[color=firebrick]I would have liked the rules better if this happend soon after a new release rather then a few weeks prior. I do feel that the extra 200 random points helped alot of the less solid factions. Let's face it, not all factions are equal. The EL have nothing to compete with Chroma, Trix, Kossak, or Khan Rava.[/COLOR
2)How was the atmosphere? (overly agressive players that were no fun to play because all they wanted to do was win, etc.)
The atmosphere was great. our play group is a great bunch and I always enjoy playing them.
3)Prizes? (do you think they were good or lacking?)
The prizes were decent in my opinion. I always enjoy things that promote factions. But of course not all factions are equal and neither were the prizes. There were more Draconum armies because they have the better figures and they had the better prize.
4)Armies? (Was the 300 pure factioned change some of the big use Cheese armies or did it balance the field a bit)
Some factions can still be "cheesy" while remaining single factions. At this point I don't care because I can get the prizes from random booster pulls for the most part.
5)Overall? (The overall feel of the whole thing)
I liked it. I liked the larger point total because we got to see a few more figures on the field as well as a few mor relics.
6) Who do you expect to win?
Draconum, because of the better prize, better figures to use, and the fact that they have a stong cult following
6) Who do you expect to win?
I really want to see the Dracs win this one. I think they deserve to roll in a low-rider floating city, complete with under-carage neon, hydrolics and a pimp Alpine system.
We have also added a magestone chain steering wheel and fuzzy elf heads hanging from the rear view...

Yeah, but that's me being cocky. Won the first tournament, but in the second one I lost to a huge crit hit (and to recover, I pushed to roll a 1 on the regen), and then I lost to a player that rolled six straight rolls of 10 or higher. But you still would have had to contend with my threshing Dracs in the end...
1) Did you like the rules? (the bring 300 pure factioned pre-constructed then buy boosters to add 500) Yes!
2)How was the atmosphere? (overly agressive players that were no fun to play because all they wanted to do was win, etc.) Very friendly and informal.
3)Prizes? (do you think they were good or lacking?) Good.
4)Armies? (Was the 300 pure factioned change some of the big use Cheese armies or did it balance the field a bit) Balanced.
5)Overall? (The overall feel of the whole thing) Good.
6) Who do you expect to win? Draconum.
7) Did who you expect to win, win at your area? Yes.
I love Single Faction play and anything that comes even close to that for Sanctioned Play gets a big thumbs up from me! With Domains being a major part of Constructed, these new Location Domains add depth to Single Faction affairs since we also have some from DR that are faction-focused. Now a player can get some good stuff going for their fave faction on the Domain side of things!
