I want to hear anyone's predictions about the upcoming prereleases (which thanks to a visit from the in-laws I will not be attending).
I predict:
1) a return of range, in this format (single set, sealed) range can become important again.
2) Importance of MI- with this set heavy on the wands, the MI figures will remain important
3)Very little spell use, because of the relatively difficult task of getting a spell book that works well with spells I don't think we will see too many sorcerers in sealed events.
I'd also say that Spell Reistance will be important too, as something to look for after MI.
And while range will also be strong, I think that any player that is going to prepare against range (by not getting any good range figs) is going to concentrate on strong defense and/or speed.
Ya....I'd imagin for the frist few weeks most ppl will have a mage in their army just to test the set....but there's alot more "cheese" which I don't believe in being a threat cause everyone will have cheese cause there's so much of it so it won't be regarded as cheese....the irony
Just a note about prediction 3, I do think spells will become a big part of the game before too long. But in sealed events and the first few constructed events getting spells will be just too hard to work.
I agree, I think that spell books will not come into their own until the first constructed events that they are legal.
But also remember that spell books are relics that give things like toughness to orcs and so one. I think they will be used, even if they have no pages in them.
Other than that, I am just excited to see the new set.
I agree, in sealed (prerelease, etc) it will be hard to field an optimized mage. Perhaps if they allowed 5 boosters and field the best 300 out of them? Who wouldn't want to buy extra in the first tourney?!
I agree that range will become more useable in Sorcery. Under 2.0 and DR you always had to worry about range being nerfed by domains. Now with spells becoming the thing I doubt many people will want to see range nerfed totally.
Also, as others have said I doubt spells will be a significant issue in the prerelease. That will require that you pick up 1) a wand based figure that can wield a spellbook, 2) compatable spellbook, & 3) spells. I think this may be challenging in 3 boosters.
Actually I don't think its going to be that hard to get a fig that can use the spellbook. If I read what Draddog said, each booster should have a rare slot, which will hold a slotted non fig.
Here's an interesting question though. Do you guys think that if someone was able to pull off getting a slotted wand fig with a spellbook and useable spells........will it be like pulling a powerful unique? Such that the player is very well of towards winning?
Just thinking about this sealed event vs. others, there are going to be some key things that aren't going to be there that we're used to. No domains. No items or relics, besides the spellbooks. I think that its going to be more of a level playing field in a sealed enviorment for this expansion then in the two previous.

Altem, I've played in quite a few sealed events and really enjoy them. I like the randomness of the event and the fact that you won't normally see the unique/relic combo du 'jour. What I've seen and experienced is that the player who fields the highest number of moderately powerful figures wins. At least in my experience.
Having opened a few boosters at DragonCon :p I can tell you a few things:
Every box has a slotted non. I believe all the "normal" slotted non's have Wand attack type.
That being said the 2 cards you receive in each package are neat but no promises. I've seen 2 s[ellbooks pulled out of a box and 2 spells.
Consider yourself fortunate if you can pull 1 spellbook out of your 3 boosters. If it's one you can use, donate something to charity.
The uniques all look very playable so if you get one, I'd play it unless your other pulls are great.
The Mage Spawn Super-Duper-Really-Rare Mage Spawn are a bit more problematic.
Vorgoth is a beast but can be beaten since he has no range.
Gaunt has his uses.
The Black Knight has uses as well but you have more figs to try to protect him with.
Malavar is the beast though for a sealed event.
