Discordian, they ARE eliminated BUT they are also removed from the game...the text states that you must roll one die and deal that much damage to the figure...IF this damage eliminates the figure, remove it from the game...
IF the figure is not eliminated, the figure still recieves the damage and remains on the field (severly close to death) which is why the Golem Familiar is the best choice for Overload because it take 5 clicks to eliminate...after a double time or push, you have better chances of eliminating the figure...
Unlike the wording for Phoenix Lance, it states that if the weilder is eliminated, instead, turn the dial to it's starting marker and return it into play...because of the word INSTEAD, the figure is no longer considered eliminated, thus, a spell like Pyresphere does not remove the figure from the game...i think?...hahahahaha!
Yeah yeah yeah, eliminated THEN removed, sorry I was wrong, first time for everything :P. Grenndal, if you want some explosion goodness and NEED call familiar try out Death Throes. Nice and cheesy, killing off your own figs to deal pushing dmg, only to have them reappear full health and ready for another suicide run. A downside is its a glyph so it ties down your cast, but you do not have to cast it everytime like explosion or overload.
