And in my opinion, paying 50 points for submerge to basically submerge a rider isn't worth it, and this is coming from an avid BPR player. I would highly recommend the captain however, especially with something like fang shield, or maybe something to give him arcing fire, he can be a super pain if you also tie up everybody so he can shoot with little consequence.
I wouldn't be so quick to say submerging a mount ain't worth it BPR player or not you wouldn't submerge morathai on a salamander and mounted bound? the ** red salamander has 18 defense with terrify, then 3 clicks of vampirism...then 3 clicks of regeneration which is nasty to deal with. you just have to play it right.

The only problem with the red Salamander and this thread is, the red Salamander doesn't have Submerge.
The 50 point istn so bad it gains stelath then regen. I was tempted to add that and the 33 pt or 37 pt khasmin surgeon but decided not to. Just wouldnt be worth it.
Put it this way, try using Morathai on the Blue salamander and then equip him with thunder javelin for MB/B. Then equip onitsha with dragonsbreath. you could easily cripple an army based on swarms.
I mean BPR is only my secondary faction but i like the submerge ability on the blue salamander and onitsha.
Also, make sure you are using fen swamp and river valley when you play submerged armies.
The captain with no attack value? either play the crown (12 attack) or put an item or relic on him to boost it and I don't think you should be having too many problems. And provided you keep him in water, He'll be sitting at a nice 19 defense (20 during fen swamp, or depending on relic/item choice). I like him tons with the crown. although 9 inches, he ends up clocking in at 5 damage with 12 attack on his starting click.
And yes, the Red salamanders are nice. I think it's the skittish part that bugs me on the BPR salamander, although I haven't actually run any armies with the Salamander being helped by either the captain or the wave spawn, so I might have to revaluate my opinion on it.
I have a fun army for 400 points that mixes these 2 things that have been said thats bad about Submerge.

Domains: Obvious.
Strategy: At the very start, I can submerge into some water near them or the domains to make it so i can go almost anywhere. Drop the army like so;

W=Wave Spawn
O=Captain Onitsha
And Salamander at an angle somewhere.
Onitsha has an 18 defense (19 with Fen) with 14 attack and arcing fire, 5 damage. Then MC With the salamander and attack with Tymara, Having a 14 attack also AND 5 damage. At least i think the ability on the crown works for the wielder. And then a WS attacks something. I think having a healer/1 use summoner/huge hitter for 123 points. Onitsha is about the same points, and he is very useful neways. Dragonsbreath is helpful against those stupid Chromas. So i have made an army that makes those things you all were saying about the mount and onitsha. There i win. :p

Not all Aquadic have submerged, although you can gain benifit of the added defense. Also if I am correct water is considered hindering so you could use MoM.
I think a good caster on a slamander (maybe Scorch) could ward of light and mechinoid your oponant and Capt Oni can use stone shatter. Even the wave spawn charge without the ward could be deadly. there are alot of combos you can put together to get you 3" away from your oponants deployment zone. One thing, you will have a hard time if your oponant plays wave of water. If you cannot get rid of it every command phase your figs will be taking 2 pushing.

A note: Last time I checked, the crown provides +1 attack and damage for wearing it, but not an additional +1 for the BPR enhancement, because a figure cannot be friendly to itself. You might want to check this up, since I haven't been keeping up as much anymore since I no longer have any place to play at regularly.
