Is it just me or are the nexus paintjobs some of the worst we've had in a long time? The halloween fruit-swirly dragons and other dumb paint scheme ideas are irritating, but the quality is just awfull too. I have a Temple Lord whose face is one big blob of pink paint, it's ridiculous and there's loads of horrible sloppy work like that.
I wouldn't complain, but I thought this set was supposed to be all about the good paintjobs. The only ones I found nice so far were my Jackal and Hawk Guardian, Mummy, and Oathbreaker Contri. Everything else is at almost Rebellion levels of quality (especially Fanged Whelp!).
The new Maelstrom Golem is the WORST paintjob/paint scheme ever in Nexus. It's like a monkey pooped and used its #### to paint this figure. Personally, I don't like to repaint the figs but I will not feel an ounce of guilt repainting this monstrosity.
There are also some crude paintjobs (Cindrata, Fanged Whelp) that are a far cry from their 1.0 counterparts. But there are also some paintjobs that are well done. And the translucent plastics used are super-cool.
In my opinion the paintjobs are either hit or miss. Some of them look good (the Paladin Priest** actually looks pretty nice with his purple and white robes and the face doesn't look too shabby) while others are questionable (the Drakona Priestess** has a neat concept but the execution is a bit off).
But remember thsi: If you don't like the way a piece is painted you can always repaint it.
How can you diss the malestrom golem, it looks awsome now! Much better than his old form. I thought the paintjobs on my batch were pretty good, but maybe I just got a special round....
OMG, I can't believe somebody out there is defending the new Maelstrom Golem's paintjob over the old one. Somebody out there just lost their credibility. :)
Well, I can only speak for the ones I've pulled or seen, but I've actually liked the actual paint jobs. Granted, some of the color schemes were not what I was expecting. However, at least they are somewhat "themed" and color coded correctly :) (IE, Delphana tend to be orange and gold, etc)
Yes, there's hit and miss jobs, but it was that way in every set.
the themes match very well even between sets.
The shyft all have the same blue-green on them.
the subfactions match.
Oh, and if you want to, my venue sells vallejo paints 4 for $10, so you can repaint them.
Speaking of which, a gamer was running low on red paint, so he did what he could to thin the paint out and make it last. He went to his game, where he promptly lost. the tears falling from his eyes fell on his mini, and ruined all his hard work. He was very upset and on his way home stopped by the church, and asked God why all this had happened. God answered him and said...

Ok, if there was ever a legitimate reason to re-add the  smiley, this it it, right here :p :D :)
Ungggg... i have heard than the paintjobs were superb and i found them to be dissapointing. The color schemes are "weird" and i've globs of picture everywhere.
In general they are not worst than other sets but i ask myself how people could have considered them superb at the Cons.
