What I'd like to know is why Wizkids hasn't even bothered to post the September events yet? It's the Thirteenth already. It's really annoying me. I'd like to know the names and special rules and all that, BEFORE I go to the tournament. I like to at least try to build my army ahead of time.
I saw it earlier after I posted. I'm curious how Word of Levitation would work, if nothing can soar. Would the target just be unable to move, or would the target be eliminated? I wonder because the spell says to place the target at soaring, but the rule for the scenario won't let the target legally occupy it. And the other special rule's REAl original, having it work just like Tezla's Shade, the Solonavi Faith Domain from DR. The storylines are just getting more and more boring. Wizkids just does not put as much effort into events as they did when we had those great month-long campaigns. Now they just slap down 1-2 "storyline tournaments," some of which are the same one and are just differentiated by "A" and "B," and than give us a constructed or two and MAYBE an unrestricted. Non-storyline Tournaments are pretty boring, frankly. I like having special rules, because it encourages, and sometimes forces you to play a different army than you might otherwise, and they stop you from playing against the same armies over and over. Anyway, I'm going to make sure to bring a few really cheap figures so if my opponent rolls a 6. it won't really do him any good, or do me any harm.
I'd think that WoL would just prevent the target from receiving move actions.
As for the sacrificial piece... I'd suggest the *Golem Familiar. Or rather a pair of them that are always kept in b2b with eachother. They can only deal 2 damage which is just enough to bring them to their first demo'ed click at which point, you would just rally to heal the 2 clicks back. Lather rinse repeat. And at 18pts there are less than a handful of figures that will be cheaper than it, which by default you can't use. So for 36pts, barring a crit hit, you basically can garantee never losing a piece you don't want to.
The other option is to make your cheapest piece a rider that is part of a cavalry unit. This way can get a bit tricky though, since cavalry units are made for aggressive play, but aggressive play will get the rider or mount killed. And hanging a cavalry unit back means about 1/3 of your army as support.
