A handful of armies, no clever titles come to mind...
I got a little tired of single faction; as cool as it is, my tactical options are severly limited. I was looking for some good inspiration for a 300 point army, and came across a few old quasi-archetypes.
The first is saberslash's Combined Arms. The idea was to base the army on two figures who specilized in either ranged or close combat, but could do both if need be.
Both Heddy and the Judge can deliver both ranged and close combat payloads. The Zombie are the most durable harassers in the game for their points, so probably will be able to harass and come back for some MHing or Aurahealing from the Priest. The Priest is there entirely for support.
The other army idea I stumbled across in the archives of MKRealms was mrdbeau's Ghost Recon. Although I lacked the original Relicbreaker core, I figured since relics don't really play a huge part where I play, I could sneak in something a little better at smashing face. With the exception of that replacement, the whole army is just as mrdbeau made it:
***Honorguard-38
EF Horned Stag-47
WHL-78
Scroll of the Grave-6
Heartdrinker-44
Treefell-21
Geddion Longblade-55
Cloak of Shadows-8
I do have points to upgrade the Honorguard to Pike, but I'd miss out on the 18 defense and, more importantly, Crushing Blow.
I'm spitting 'em out pretty prolificly, so here goes another:
Varatrix-156
PoV-20
***Zombie Centaur-32
***Zombie Centaur-32
**Rivvenguard Archer-52
Marauder Gishki (a)-8
Varatrix has always been my favorite figure, so this is one of the many armies I've tried with him. I'd have preferred to have *Blood Demons instead of the Centaurs, but there's no figure I have for 6 or less points. The Centaurs are also incredibly durable.
I'll post how they do later on, as soon as I get to play.
I like the second one two, it has the most "style", IMO. I am, however, getting a veerrryyy cool figure in the mail in a few weeks. I think I could replace Geddion with the more mobile, harder hitting Centaur Champion:
*Honorguard-34
**EF Stag-47
**Centaur Champion-66
Cloak of Shadows-8
Wylden-Host Leader-78
Heartdrinker-44
Treefell-21
I had to downgrade the Honorguard to fit in the Cloak, but I do pick up Toughness and an extra point of damage. IMO, it's worth it; the Stealth, and the extra point of speed are invaluable. In this version, the Stag calvary unit is a bit more vulnerable, but I think he can still get where he needs to be without being shot down. Heartdrinker is still an amazing multi-tasker, healing and fighting well. The WHL is really my only answer to soaring threats, but she too is an amazing multi-tasker. The Champion, IMO, is just as competent as the cavalry, in just about... everything!
Originally posted by THE DRAGON Basically you have a 4-figure army (5 if you count the Stag). Replace the Wylden Host Leader and Heartdrinker with something else, something cheaper.
There I'm not sure I entirely agree with you on this one. I think that one of this army's strengths is the ability of its healers to fight first, heal second. But I'm curious, what would you recommend?
