My first figure was Liada, in large part because I thought having an elemental would be really cool. But as I scan about looking at other figures, I don't really think it's very useful with her.
Seems to me that the red shield would be MOST useful used against Liada! She's by far the most effective MU so far in the game, so the red shield is most useful when defending against her.
Also, the red d12 is nice, but it's a bit of overkill. She can get plenty of other red dice from other gear to make up the difference.
I foresee loading her up with her other 12 points of gear, until another magic sniper appears.
I kitted out my Liada w/ other red dice stuff plus Kyushi's vest to give her some balance.
I think the Air Spirit is a bit expensive point-wise and if you get hit w/ tech superiority, and the Spirit gets dropped you are pretty much dead.
I am considering trying it with Lothan, since his ability to soak up damage and red bonus may make it more effective (and since you can sorta ignore defensive equip on him, due to his built in toughness.)
Still need to actually play a bit to see if this works in practice!
Eh. I think its halfway decent. Theres not yet anything else that has magic shields. Now.. I'm not sure exactly what else youd use witht eh stim pack, maybe a stim pack and a dagger, but in a 1vs1 battle, the air ele probably just isnt practical.
The shield is really useful against nearly anyone, actually, I think. How many characters would like a red d4 to modify something? Kyushi is definately one. Lothan would be another.
Actually, I agree that the Air Spirit has alot more Potential with other characters. In particular I am considering loading it onto G-Dogg when he teams up with Liada. Sure he can't use the d12 on it's own, but it is still a d12, and there are plenty of times when that can be useful. In particular, I pair up the Taser and the Elemental. Rolling d12 d4 for an attack, with a good chance of a Stun Ace, is nice. Not sure if I'll add the 2 point Ares from Silver Max for another d6 blue, or some sort of shield Item.
I put it with lothan, and wow. Against other series one figures he just simply owns them. Giving him also a med pack the one with the black shield 4. Makes him a real pain to take down. :)
I've struggled with Liada all together. I think maybe alot of this deal mostly with table set up, but for the most part, the air elemental has meant death to Liada. With no terrain, there's just NOTHING I can do to deam that dern GDogg off of her long enough for her to do anything, then her att and def stats are so low that I'm not hitting unless I get a good roll like 8+ on that d 12, and alone that's usually only 2 clicks somewhere.
All in all, it's just not enough for the elemental to be used.
Fact: Magic dice are wild card dice. that's the high point, the air elemental allows WHOEVER to run like a bat out of heck. It allows a good dodge.... and that's it.
FACT: There's next to nothing to buy for 4 points, that can either ballance her out or make her magic aggressive enough to attack with.
I played Liada with her Air Spirit and Wand against a loaded out G-Dogg (All his base equipment except the scanner with it's black shield). Admittedly it was my second game, where as my opponent was playing for the first time, but I managed to make the D12 work for her. An attack with d12 and d6 at range, 3 damage, 4 with a wild card, then backing up. Note that Terrain played a minor, but not vital part in the win. If you're not playing with terrain, read the advanced rules and try it.
Yes, I'm using the advanced rules. It just seems like the thing to go best with the air elemental would be the red sack off of the troll. 2 d4 is a great way to just jack up dammage with that d12, unfortunately it's 6 points. Maybe Kyashi's pendant is 2? (not sure off hand) lemmee check one sec. Nope itt was 3. Unfortunately there is no cheap way to keep some descent defence dice when your paying 3 for just a red d4. :(
So at best you stick with her stock standard.
Ok with air elemental the best I can reccomend would be to buy the combat spell amulet that she comes stock with. this gives you a pool of 7 dice:
Red d12 d6 d4
Yellow 2d4
white D10 d6
With 7 dice you have 1 to burn for healing (which you most likely will have to do because close combat WILL occurr)
You hav3e a pretty offencive attack of 4+ dammage stock. with a D10/D6/D4 dodge left. that's not too entirely bad.
I just can't see how this would hold up top a close combat character at all, seeing how they would all come loaded down with all sorts of movement jacking equipment. (G dogg with say.... Stim Kit(d10) and maybe the shoulder pouch (2d4) for a total of 6+d10+3d4+d6 movement is pretty hard to stay away from.
I've tried keeping distance but boards have edges and in a 2 player game the 2 turns back to back that a player would get always puts them on you in 3 or so turns.Running away for 3 turns keeps them out of your range as well and then it ends when you hit a corner. If anyone's figgured out a way to kill someone off in 3 turns without green dice, I'd really like to know.
If you are having alot of problems with Liada getting up close and personal in combat when she's got the Air Elemental, then consider reconfiguring her for Close Combat. Set it up that she /wants/ to get into close quarters. Try this.
Air Elemental 1
Machette 2
Cloak 2
This gives her
Red d12 d6
Yellow d6 d4
White d8 d6
Red Shield 4
Yellow Shield 6
This gives you a character who can do 3 damage out to 24 inches, and with a single yellow d4 added into the mix, 4 at close range. Not only that, she's usually going to negate the +1 close combat bonus that most Melee Monster's have with her Cloak, and even Negate Lothan's Magic /and/ melee bonus if the Troll should close. The Yd6 Wd8 Wd6 might be low average for defense, but don't forget, if you're being attacked first in a turn, there's nothing that says you can't sink the Rd6 or Rd12 into your defense and wait for a turn when you have the intiative to do damage.
I think the thing that you guys are missing is that she a sniper, and why G-Dogg is getting close is beyond me, She has an effective 23 range with red, and she can move every turn, so if you use the spirit, it gives you a better chance at range, and with major mojo or whatever it's called you can do more damage. She's very good at what she does and I would say that only if you stay close is the only real way she can be taken down, she for one isn't a stand alone fighter as are many in this set, many need one more person to be truly effective. I think that the 12 sider is huge because it greatly increases your chances of hitting and doing damage and with that extra 4 points you can easily put in the dragon amulet or the Combat Spell Amulet to give that extra umf, needed to make the attack sound. as for dodge, has a very good chance for doge with an 8,6 and 4 sided dice to help keep her alive. very managible. She and her wind spirit have the potential for first strike and run, odds are she can shoot something before it hits her and with the 12 sider, hit, then run away and let them keep working to get to you, and sooner or later they'll be slower than you and you'll force them to keep burning dice on movement and not defence, so hitting won't be all that hard.
I suppose she is ballanced ...once you throw terrain in. I've noticed most people like to take shots in legs Since you still have movement left even if the dice roll is 0. By simpilly playing the range game I got 3 shots off on G-dogg early game, and then noticed after he was knocked to 0 movement that the only white dice my opponenet had bothered to toss into his pool for allocation were a d4 and a d6. Sitting at the corner of level 1 terrain, he'd have to roll max on those 2 dice to get up after me.(this is dealing with a corner of said box that I was not on, he kept moving and I'd move in front of him on the top to blast him, and his 10" was not enough to get him to the top and around my base) the extra D4 allocated to me by elevation, allong with my d8,d6,and d4 kept the shotgun and tazer off of me for dammage, as I continnued to slowly wear him down.
I'm not sure if it's just incredible tactics, or increadibly unfair to do that yet. :)
I just got Liada recently and was wondering about the best possible gear/tactic to battle? Granted i've only played one game so far and since it was a 3way FFA it wasn't entirely fair to me being that it was against Lothan and G-dogg, but I was thinking of this combination:
Combat Spell Amulet (4) - yd4,rd4
Wand (4) - rd6
Cloak (2) - Yellow Shield 6
Shoulder Pouch (2) - 2wd4
Coupled with the starting dice it would give me
rd4, 2rd6
2 yd4
2wd4, wd8, wd6
which would be a total 9of 9 dice, which I know is a little too many but since this is the only figure I have at the moment I figure that this would be one of the 'better" combinations? Unless i can trade/borrow some friend's gear? Any suggestions? Please help, thank you!
