As with almost all collectable games, MLB SportsClix has a rarity scheme. Part of what makes collectable games so fun is hunting for that elusive piece, and SportsClix doesn’t disappoint. The initial MLB SportsClix set will have 198 players from your favorite MLB teams, as they appeared in the 2003 season. How hard will it be to find all 198 figures? Well, that is determined by the rarity level!
Rarity levels are determined using a complex formula. For MLB SportsClix, that number is between 1 and 6. While this range is similar to other WizKids games, the scale is not the same. A player with a rarity of 1 is more likely to show up in a Booster than a player with a rarity of 4. In the list below, each player is listed with his collector's number and rarity. As you can see, the lower a player’s collector's number, the more likely you are to find him in a Booster.
Rarity also represents whether a player is a Unique or non-Unique sculpt. What's the difference? There are several different catcher poses, pitcher poses, and so on. But Unique sculpts are used only once, and they reflect a player’s “signature pose.” For example, Ichiro Suzuki’s Unique sculpt portrays him as he pulls his sleeve back. Unique sculpts are rarity 4. Players who share sculpts are rarity 1–3.
Upping the collectability of this set are two levels of "chase" figures – All Stars and Super Stars. These figures are available only in limited quantities, and are therefore more collectable than even Uniques. Available on blue bases, All Stars wear alternative versions of their team uniforms. There are 26 different All Stars, and they are rarity 5. The Super Stars are even more collectable. Available on red bases, Super Stars are painted so that their uniforms appear “dusty.” There are five different Super Stars, and they are rarity 6.
Chase figures have the same stats as their non-chase versions, however their alternate uniforms, paint jobs and rarity will make them hot collectors items!
I guess one thing I noticed right off is how some of the better players are distributed all over in rarity. For instance, Carlos Delgado, Carlos Beltran, Garrett Anderson, Todd Helton and John Smoltz are all level 1's (most common), while players like Magglio Ordonez, Roy Halladay, Vlad Guerreroare and Sammy Sosa all level 4 (uniques).
I guess that's deliberate to keep people from constantly getting crappy players in boosters, since there's a good chance to pull a Helton or any other level 1 in a pack.
There do seem to be an awful lot of 4's, 5's and 6's (79 figures in total). I hope the distribution isn't so bad that someone opens an entire booster case and only gets 1 level 6. Only time will tell!
Those things had better be a lot more common than they are in other Wizkids games. With the normal 6-8 that come in a case of HeroClix, you'd need 6-8 cases with no duplicate uniques to get a set!
I know the packs are a smaller size, but that still makes me pretty nervous...
I know that we can't get exact formulas from anybody at Wizkids, but if somebody from Wizkids is listening, are the uniques going to be more common for this game?
And GTBreaker, the 5's and 6's are tournament prizes and won't appear in packs. They are just the player in a different uniform...
Ahhh....one less NL Unique. Wonder who that was...
*coughBarryBondscough*
But yeah, based on my calculations, you will get 12 Uniques in a case. It is gonna take an INSANE amount of cash to possibly get a full set, and that's not including the 5's & 6's
Originally posted by rockiesfan So the chase figures are like LE's and can only be obtained by playing in leagues/tournaments?
Yes, however they will also be available in boosters as chase figures. So you may be able to pull a blue or red base from a booster.
WK is sending Typhon (the other owner of RealmWorx) a couple of cases of MLB boosters to do a case report with. Once he has that done, you should get a sense of what you might expect when opening a booster.
Go 'Stros- What calculations are you using to determine there will be 12 uniques per case? If that's indeed the truth, there are going to be alot of disappointed people at having to open 4+ cases in order to pull a full set of rarity 1-4's.
I also wonder what the possibility of pulling a level 5 or 6 from a booster case will be? I can't imagine it will be very high (maybe 1 per case or something).
It sure would be nice if WizKids would be a little more specific, since that will determine whether I'll open both my cases or not.
Maybe i didnt understand it. All Stars and Super Stars are Only available at tournaments. The rest you can get on boosters ,but all have the same stats at their different levels? Im kind of coufnsed :)
This looks doomed. Are you telling me the only way I can get a Sammy Sosa is to win one in a tourney? I could see if a Sosa was available in boosters, and another LE version was prize support. But to not be able to buy any Lv6 is just plain crazy. I WAS considering buying some boosters, but not anymore.
quenten B- There will be a Sosa available in boosters (N66), which is a level 4 (unique). There will also be a level 5 rarity Sosa (B21), which sounds like will be available mainly through tourneys, but possibly also in boosters.
Guys...Draddog already corrected my info and answered the question that you are asking. For other games, the LE's are only available at tournaments, but for this game (MLB Sportsclix), the LE's will be available in boosters, but very very rare. They will also be available as prizes at tournaments.
