Just thought I would lump 3 questions into one thread since I couldnt find the answers on here.
1.It says on Genny Gallows flavor text that she is a Captain. Does this give her the Captain ability?
I would think technically no. But if she is a captain she should have it, don't you think?
2.Can you fire your guns while docked?
It doesn't say you can or can't in the rulebook. I think you can. And if you can, That just makes docked ships at the home island that much tougher. (upon writing this, that does make sense, but I need clarification.)
3. If your ships cargo is full of treasure/crew or both. Can you ditch one if you go to an island and see something you want more?
Maybe you could just swap it out. Hell, I would leave a crewmember on an island if it meant I could pick up a unique treasure. I think the answer to this is no, but I need to check.

No. If she dosen't have the ability spelled out in her rules portion of the text, she dosen't have it.
You can find a couple of examples of other named crew that do have the captain's abiliy spelled out in their text.

Yes. Ships that are docked at their home island cannot be shot AT, but can still shoot.

I don't remember if you can ditch crew or not, but you certainly could swap treasure.
2. Where do the rules or faqs say a docked ship can shoot?
Where does it say that they can't?
I'm not trying to sound like a jerk. But the only mention that I've ever seen about ships being docked and their ability to shoot or be shot at was that you can't shoot at a ship that is docked at it's home island... Which I've personally never understood, logically speaking, why can't that ship be targeted? But that is what the rules state.
Logically speaking, there is no reason a docked ship can't fire. I've heard some say that it's because the ship can't maneuver while docked, thus can't fire... but a ship that is pinned can't maneuver and it can still fire. I've also heard some say that it's becuase the crew is otherwise occupied... but I don't see why the crew would entirely abandon their ship, only a small detail of men are needed to load or unload the ship - the rest should still be free to man the guns.
*shrug* just my two copper coins worth.

As far as your third question goes, you can swap cargo and/or crew on wild islands. But whatever you leave is fair game to any other players who can come and explore. Unique treasure doesn't take up a cargo space as far as that goes, and you HAVE to take it anyways.
As for the second question, you can shoot while docked at any island, but you cannot be fired upon if it is your home island. You can be shot at on wild islands, though.
Not firing on your home island makes sense to me. It would seem that you would build a safe harbor to the best of your ability. And who knows if you have some cannons hidden along the beach. So I can see that penalty being viable.
And the captain thing I understand also.
But are you guys sure you can just unload crew in exchange for treasure? "Well Carl, sorry we're going to leave you here to fend for yourself. GOOD LUCK!!" And if you do desert crew on an island, can others pick them up?
1) Genny Gallows doesn't have the captain ability UNLESS the card states so. See Thomas Gunn the Younger, Captain Jack Hawkins, Captain Blackheart. They have the move and shoot ability.
2) Yes. Ships at home island can shoot and be shot at. The FAQ and new FAQ (which is coming. Dammit!) will address this. The original rules says that ships at home island cannot be shot at.
However, it's silly to shoot at a ship docked at home island as they can spend the next turn repairing.
This essentially means that you can use a ship like the Revenant to 'convert' the home island into a fort. It can shoot at enemy ships.
3) YES! You can unload treasure and crew on an island. HOWEVER, this means that the crew is fair game for anyone. Your opponent can dock at that island (unless it's your home island although some ships allow you to do on an enemy island) and pick up the crew.
You can even start the game with crew on your home island and pick them up later (fodder for Blackheart, etc).
I was talking about a ship docked at at a wild island. I'm sure one may not fire when docked at a wild island. It is true that one may not fire on one's opponent when he is at his home island, but a ship docked at a wild island may not fire. :)
