I met someone a while ago who told me something about the reroll ability. I always took it to be an ability that made a crew a more versatile cannoneer, allowing you to redo a single die roll and then dealing with whatever else you roll after that. He stated that once per turn (which I only mention in the event that a ship gets an extra action), the crew with the reroll ability allows you to reroll not one, but any roll you make for that ship for as many rolls as you can make for the duration of the turn. I contend that his interpretation is not only incorrect but unquestionably undercosted if it worked that way, which I don't believe it does.
You can apply the ability to any roll made for the ship (boarding, shooting, additional actions, etc.), but the "once per turn" means you can only use it to reroll one die, one time, in any given turn.
If it didn't have the "once per turn" restriction, or said you could reroll EACH roll for a ship, then your friend's interpretation might be correct - although, if that were the case, as you said the ability would have to cost a lot more for than it currently does...
Just to add in my two coppers ;) A turn, in this case, is not limited to your turn. You may, for instance, also reroll (once) a bad defending roll against boarding.
All of the above interpretations are correct! The problem is the same one we have had<and I imagine all games have the same thing> that many people do not CAREFULLY read the rules. We must pay attention to the verbage used and stick to the extreme leter of the law. The ability says "Once per turn" That MEANS thatONCE PER TURN!
Your friend simply needs to read more carefully and if he won't listen to you go to the WK forums and print out the FAQ's for him. They say the same thing I just said again and again. Tahnk you for listening to me.
