Always nice to get a U in your first booster, even if the card's bent.
So, slay a victim, become UberWolf.
UberWolf returns to UberMan if he kills a monster.
... at first, I thought this sucked. Then I realized... on transformation, you're fully healed. Get into a knock-down, drag-out fight, land on your last click with Grave, kill the other guy... get healed to full human mode, then go slay a victim and become fully-healed wolf again...
A power piece that works best with strategy and tactics? I love it!
The only problem with getting de-wolf'd is that any putz with a chainsaw can come barrelling up and slice you in half REAL easily once you're soft and squishy again, as I saw at GenCon. :p
Another good "finesse" uniqe: Widow Octavia. Her first dial is great for Invulnerable threats, and her second dial is very useful against weaker figs, 'cause she heals up to her red line when she kills a monster.
If played correctly, Dire Werewolf is awesome. I think he works best with a backup piece lurking to deliver the killing blows...a nice, low cost monster with Slash like R Jester or Chainsaw seems like it would fit the bill.
Yeah, the Uniques are all not your typical "point and shoot" figures.
I love the fact that you have to really think about how best to use Blood Demon, Widow Octavia, Dire WW and The Mummy.
Many of the figures are really designed for themed play...especially the ones with the Cabal Powers. Your force has to compliment the leader. It's not just "Use the most powerufl figure, toss on a pit crew, play the game".
I pulled the Dire Werewolf yesterday, and I'm taking him for a test drive tonight!
What do you all think of adding a few of the R Dog Soldiers to the force? Will the cabal bonus be worth it, or are they points better spent on, say, Chainsaw?

It depends. Are you more intent on winning or playing a themed type of team?
Personally, I'd go for the Dog Soldiers. However, unless you have several cases of figures, you likely will not end up with 300 points of werewolves.
Tossing in Chainsaw as "filler" would be forgiven in this case. ;)
my friend just picked up the starter and a booster so now I'll have to go buy 2-3 boosters to challenge his ### this weekend. I love being evil. I'm sooo going to trade off all my "goody too-shoes" figures. Except maybe a rev of ghost busters. And Ash if he ever is made
Hmm...its funny, some friends and I were playing last night and one of them was playing the Dire Werewolf (I had the Reaper of Souls and the other guy had the Blood Demon). We all remembered something about the Direwolf in the FAQ, but none of us had it with us. So we played the Grave ability as healing to the red line instead. Because of that none of us gave the Dire Werewolf the chance to kill anything. But I guess all the FAQ does is add the phrase 'and flip this card' to the end. Definately less scary now.

what was really cool about even this erroneus experience with the piece, was that playing him correctly or incorrectly he is still a very thoughtprovoking piece
I played a 200-point game with a buddy last night that fits this thread perfectly!
He ran:
U Dire Werewolf
Starter Werewolf (I'd get his proper name if the friggin' fig gallery wasn't down..)
E Dire Wolf
R Dire Wolf
R Dog Soldier
(205 points, i know -- I spotted him 5 to try the theme)
I ran a Zombie horde with mostly borrowed pieces:
Rookie Zombie Cop X2
Exp. Zombie Cop
Exp Shambling Zombie
Vet Shambling Zombie
Rookie Zombie Lawyer
Starter Skeleton
Here's what I noticed:
Zombies are the Wolf's bane
At least in this set-up, my zombies proved to be a huge pain in the rear for my opponent. Why all those Wolves had some fun stuff, not one of the pieces on his team had any powers that would up his damage on a Frenzy move & attack above one, and only one of his pieces could make a ranged attack. Since all my zombies had the equivalent of Toughness, that caused him no end of grief.
The horde that stays together, slays together
Zombies got a lot of things going against them: low movement, not many damage-bumping powers, no Cabal bonuses, etc. But they do have one thing going for them -- sheer numbers. Keep them packed tight and they become a major problem: Get close enough to kill one, and two more will overrun you. I love the fact that the tactic is both good strategy and movie accurate!
The Dire Werewolf is a bad, bad man
For all the trouble my zombies gave the rest of his force, they ran into a furry wall of death and destruction when they took on the Dire Werewolf. Most of my zombies couldn't even hurt him. After I annihilated the rest of his force, my zombies were ripped to shreds by the Invulnerable beast.
The dial design of the Dire Werewolf is a thing of beauty, as it offers two distinct possibilites. First, you can wade into a mass of weaker enemies and decimate them without a scratch. Alteranatly, you could tackle any monster in the game one on one, survivning on its plentiful Invulnerability. once you slay the difficult foe, you can use the Grave power to revert back to its weaker (but still formidable) form, retreat to slay another victim, and return to the fight fully healed. Nasty, nasty stuff.
I've been playing with the demo pieces for two months, I have two full sets from WWE, on the Prison,Junkyard and Lab maps.
We were on Vacation and I could not pick up my bricks until later today.
The area we were staying in was going to shut down because of the Hurricane.
I knew of a local game/comic shop, so the night before the now Tropical Storm hit us, I went and picked up a few DVD's and game to keep us from bordom.
I grabbed a starter and three boosters for variety.
We were trapped in our hotel on Friday, we lost power for a short time and the Cabel and Network link all day.......game time
After a test run on the maps with the starters, we opened the boosters.
The Dire Werewolf was the very first piece I pulled from a booster.
I had to try him out, The first of the four games I used him was the only time he went down (my wife using Chainsaw rolled a 6).
I was sending him out, hitting with him, finishing off with another piece, transforming him, beating one of her monsters to death and repeat, he was great. You must keep a victom in reach when needed, he is a blast to play, a real "beast".
I've only played two 300 pointers so far,but they've been epic!At the heart of both games was the Dire Werewolf and his Dog Soldiers. He is the Beast!!! He fell in my second game to the Chainsaw after the latter threw a miracle 6 on his Slash roll-nonetheless I love this fig!!!
