Before spending 60$ on Syrthyn, I would like to know if he's any good for he's 150 points? The WK website doesn't show if he has an attack bonus, neither what is his range damage value or what is the nexus special ability (well, at least on my mac). He's dial is kinda odd.
So? Are you syrthyn than syrthyn is worth 150 points and 60$?
For 150 points? He's one of the worst Draconum ever. No joke. He switches between Cursed/Pierce and Magic Healing/Invulnerability, so all it takes is one click of damage and this guy has to switch his game plan entirely. His entire dial of Mage Blast is his only means of offense, since his ranged damage is 2 (his ranged attack bonus is +3, but still, 12 attack is below par at that price point). Couple this with his lackluster range of 10" and his limited spellcasting variety, and you have a figure so lousy it makes Goldyx look like a winner (Note: I really, really hate Goldyx, even more so now that the utterly superior Vharigar came out).
Cursed is supposedly there to lower a figure's point cost, but it sure didn't help Syrthyn any.
Sorry for the ignorance, but what fig is "Vharigar". It doesn't show up on a MK search. Thanks!
He's one of the four figures in the Apocalypse Battle Force Set, which was released in 2006 as one of multiple promotions for the MK Apocalypse computer game. As far as I know, you can still buy the Battle Force Set at https://secure.wizkidsgames.com/battleforce/.
All four of the figures in the set are quite playable, but I think Vharigar has 'em all beat:
BTW those 4 figures from the Battle Force Set are all interesting... I specially like Kithana that have nice fun to play stats... Figures in the 100pts range always seams to hit the sweet spot in efficiency... think about Chroma and Kem for examples...
Syrthyn is a Mage Spawn, 9th Circle guy as I recall all those other super rare pieces were. If he was a Draconum, I'd sure like to see a pix showing his faction symbol.

So if you've got a Draconum version of Syrthyn, he's a real rare bird it appears!
Wyvern
He's a Draconum. He's also a Dark Crusader. And a Black Powder Revolutionary. Even a Shyft. In play terms, he is very rarely a Mage Spawn. :P
However, for the purposes of deployment, he's very much a Mage Spawn. Which means that any spellbook he carries into battle will have to be non-factional, with non-factional spells. Weak!
If you compare this figure to the Lord Valantis for the same 150 pts, I prefer Lord Valantis.
His dial really is a "appear / disappear" SA.
I believe there would be an strategy for that piece (which I donīt know) like many pieces in MK that you donīt know how to use but someone finds a use or a surprise combo for it.
I believe figures like that are created to Conquest games where most of time you do not have to think about wasting some points.
Now talking as a collector I am, I like that piece. Of course, I believe it lacks a weapon (or maybe a book) in his hands but the pieces of golden armor covering parts of his body is really nice !
Metal Knight
PS : About Goldyx, I also think he is almost useless in 300 pt games. In my oppinion, he was created to Conquest games. Try to use this sorcerer wielding a Turaījan Tome spellbook and giving to everybody +5 of bonus to your counterspell rolls. I have already tried and my opponent had serious problems to cast a single spell with my Vithzerai conterspelling with an initial value of 20 (14+1+5) + 1d6.
Note: I really, really hate Goldyx, even more so now that the utterly superior Vharigar came out.
What? he is the best caster in conquest games hands down. Dodge, toughness, MI on a caster? not to mention wing type and a 5 bonus attack (fumble). The other options could be the ** Eldritch Draconum or the *** Revered mystic but i think Goldyx does the job better. Vharigar is somewhat out of the picture considering he is sorta LE, besides he is not a caster per se, i think he is more of damage dealer.

Hey now, don't forget about my girl the ** Drakona Priestess! She gets Ancient Mastery, Magic Healing, Terrify, higher defense, higher speed, and a consistent 4 damage (not saying she'll be attacking much, but it's nice to have the option).
My key problem with Goldyx is that casting is...well, all he does. I just can't abide spending 125 plus a spellbook's worth of points on a figure whose main virtues are his sturdiness (I'll give him credit for that), his resistance to Fumble (which isn't a huge deal), and his interaction with the Tur'ajaran Tome (which costs a lot of points and knocks his defense down to 15...and god help you if the opponent isn't playing a spellbook). He's underwhelming in combat, with Mage Blast and a couple of spells as his only offense. He has Magic Healing as a secondary purpose, but only in the middle of his dial. Basically, any action you give him has to be a spellcast, or else he'll very likely just sit around being a waste of points. And in terms of casting, he doesn't do the job any more effectively than the Priestess (or Vharigar, but I guess we're leaving him out), who doesn't need to get smacked around to get to her secondary use.
Heck, from his first click, the ** Eldritch Draconum can cast AND heal AND use Leadership. It's much easier for him to stay useful than it is for Goldyx.
Syrthyn is a Draconum for flavor purposes, each of the dragon slayers represents the unification of the races in the last war against the Apocalypse.
Also his weapon is lacking because it was turned into a relic. Wyrmfire if I remember right. Kinda of another flavor thing.
I'm another fan of the Drakona priestess especially in big point games where you can multirole her as spellcaster, range threat, and decoy.
I haven't used vharigar yet just because of his scale. The sculpts and stats are great from that set but the scale is really off. Makes me wonder if that would have been the scale for the after 2.0 sets.
Whether he is worth the points or not, if u (have to) decide to play him (in bigger games), I think the "Revivicator" relic is a good choice for him to wield. for "only" 27 pts it provides him with the good addition leadership and allows to additionally wield an AF for 12 pts to include countercasting spells (deny, disbelieve, disenchant).
The -1 on base attack doesn't create that obvious drawback, cause healing and counterspelling ingnores modifiers.
Therefore u can use him in 3 functions working well: countercasting, healing and leadership till the end of the game. throw away revivicator at best moment and join the battle.

Does healing ignores modifiers on the source ? I know it ignores modifiers on the target (ala +3 to defense), but I'm not sure if things lower the healer's values that they are ignored.

didnt have a look for the specific wording, but in my head is "...ignore ALL modifiers ..." (which is not bonus!)
