Right now I'm trying to work out an army built around the highest possible attack value I can get on a mech that is making an assault order. Here's what I've got so far in my 600 pt army:
DF Morrigan 108
K. Bonilla +DF Rct 48
DF Goshawk 127
NAIS Pilot (P-005) 19
BAP 35
DF FP (F-003) 20
So basically, the Morrigan starts with a 13 AV, gets bumped to a 14 with the FP and then gets another +1 from BAP ending up with a 15 AV. I could go with IT on the Morrigan, but since it doesn't have much of a damage output, it'll probably end up with something like Inferno Flamers.
So for those of you keeping score at home, thats a light mech with a 15 speed, a 15 attack, and a 21 defense. Can anyone bump this higher in a six hundred point game?
Jack and Julz were a consideration, but they are no help to me if I end up using the inferno flamers since Julz's ability only lowers a target's defense if it is being attacked via ranged weapons.
I do however have other needs in this army. For instance, it needs a hammer; something that deals damage, because lord knows that even though the Morrigan is leading the charge, it's not going ot be the one dealing the damage.
Your targets need only to base your mechs and kill your 15 att at leasure.
You need support.
Agreed. That's why I came here, to get help on this army build.
DF Morrigan + Kelly + DF Rct. + Inf. Flamers
and
DF Goshawk + NAIS Pilot + BAP
and
DF Faction Pride
equals 382 points leaving 218 for support. Should I go with a third small mech? Should I go with some infantry formations (possibly DF Shock Troops, maybe even in a transport)? Should I pop some arty in there?
One of my ideas, though I grant that it's a bit reliant on luck has Lorccan Dillon Piloting the "Kolyu" Nyx with Double Rate. That's a little hammer, but since the Double Rate can't be used on an assault, it limits my options.
This should give you a basis on what you need to defeat them.
You conclude you need high att ? Why ?
again what do you expect to face ?
Then you design elements that can counter it or support the strong points in your army.
You have chosen 2 center pieces are they adequate to accomplish your goals ?
Me I would bring inf support 1 formation preferable with infiltrate. Preferable cheap as they will die.
Can you afford arty ? do you know if the arty is usefull against your opponents ?
You are committing to battle before you envisioned winning the battle.
1 what do you face ?
2 how do you want to defeat it ?
3 are my own strenghts enough to accomplish my goal
4 what are my weaknesses ? and can I control them.
Then you built your army.
I can say something like grasshopper but ill spare you that one.
Idea#1
Maybe think about Lowell over NIAS for a +2+2+1.
He is 7 points more, plus 6 for recruiting, but how about paying for the DF Merc contract? Gets rid of Kelly's 12 recruit cost and Lowell's and also opens you up to all sorts of new pieces: Zahns, Kelswas, Sniper Arty, all that inf...
Idea#2 (Support)
Garrot or Maxim with a DI Schmitt
and leaves aprox. 75-80 points for some Shock Troops/ATVs/Kanazuchi/Mortar Squads/Raiden BA/Gnome Ba
Good Lord, that could be really nasty with the Merc Faction Pride...
Of course, that kinda does away with the necessity for a 15 AV doesn't it? With the highest possible unmodified defense at 24, I would need to roll a 9 to hit. Not quite a gimmie, but a very good shot. Unfortunately, I would still have to pay Kelly's recruit cost if I as still going to use the DF Morrigan, but with the Merc Faction pride I could find a better medium mech (i.e. BAP carrier)than the DF Goshawk. As for Lowell, it's a good idea, maybe in a CJF Goshawk or Hatchetman...
if you are looking for a better carrier for BAP try the kurita night talker with its pilot.... pilot ability also very handy
but for me its the metablade solitaire with kelly bonilla and either homing beacon or improved targeting recruited into republic
republic faction pride
gray hunter wulfen with gwen fetladrel and improved targeting
rots violator with sakhara and BAP
giving metablade a total of 16 targeting with it or 17 if shooting at same unit as gwen hit for 596 points or 18/19 (gwen) with homing beacon and rots combat tech for an even 600
