I'm not a fan of the Undead Mechs in 600-point play. In this army, I just don't see Pestilence dealing out enough damage to get many counters - and without counters, that 50-point pilot is wasted.
I like the range idea - 16 from the Vixen and 18 from the Gravedigger. But you need more heavy-hitters in there. The Vixen will be weak against infantry, and the Gravedigger can only deal out 3 damage max.
Pestilence seems like a very odd mech on its own, the lance needs its lance mates or its way over priced. 250 points for a mech putting out 3 damage (Someone said that i dont know what it actually deals off hand). Very high priced for doing almost nothing.

I like using alternative firing mode with pestilence. It means it can do 5 damage without killing anything. Too bad its on the shorter range weap. Thats about the only way I would use it without other lance members.
I ws contimplating wacking on double rate for meds insteda of torso mod and dropping an inf...I like some of the aboive ideas, already gone through my head as well ;)
