" Up till now, every character we’ve looked at has belonged to a team. Team affiliated characters have the advantage of being able to team attack together or reinforce each other, and they can benefit from team-specific modifiers like It’s Clobberin’ Time or Danger Room. Even the Negative Zone boys (who don’t have a whole lot going on . . . yet) can attack together in a pinch.
But there is that other team. And by “team,” I mean “non-team.” What I’m talking about are the unaligned or unaffiliated characters. These are the loners of the Marvel Universe—the mercenaries, cads, and rapscallions. Or sometimes they’re just versions of characters representing them when they weren’t really on teams. For example, Lady Deathstrike was at one point a Reaver, but this set’s version of her is when she’s on her own.
So how do unaffiliated characters fit into the game on the whole?
At first you might say, “Wow, they don’t belong to a team. That means I can splash them into any deck. Yay!”
I don’t mean to curb your enthusiasm, but actually you can put pretty much any character into any deck. There are exceptions like the giant Professor X or Magneto, but for the most part it’s easy, because the Marvel TCG is pretty wide open. Throw a few Storms into a Brotherhood deck, and she’ll function an awful lot like an unaligned character. So if any character can be splashed anywhere, what’s the bonus of putting an actual, for real and for true, unaligned character into a deck?"

I can't believe they actually said that! They renew my faith in this game's future every time they do something like that.
I loved loved loved this review! Characters like Arcade take some strategy to use effectively, so most people aren't going to bother with them. They don't know what they're missing.
It's nice that they confirmed that unaffiliated characters are a tad cheaper than they would be if they were on a team.

Either way, dropping a few Random Punks into play on the first few turns and then following them up with turn three Arcade and a turn four Mojo is pretty exciting.
Now I'm so hyped up for an unaffiliated deck I can't even think.
So what do you think the last one will be? Maybe they'll go out with a whimper and do Moira MacTaggert.

I'm actually going to try and build a competitive n-a deck. I'll let everyone know if it works;)

makes sense - baically, it means that the Team Affiliation (like in Heroclix) is worth something in card construction.

My guess? It'll be a major character - either Spidey, another Wolvie, or perhaps a Professor X.
Arcade sounds great! Great power and he can fit into any deck. Metagame has been on a roll with great articles over the past few days.
As for the last article, IF it is a single character, I bet Kergy is right on the money with those choices. Magneto (have they done all of him?) or maybe Hulk wouldn't surprise me much either. Personally, I think they'll end doing something broader though, not sure what. Maybe just miscellanious thoughts that haven't been covered yet.

Way to go Kergy! That's what I like to hear. I'm sure you can do it. The only deck that I'm convinced is unplayable is , tragically, the one I most want to build a deck around, the Skrull/Negative Zone/Puppet Master combo.
Originally posted by Kergillian Personally, I'm waiting for DC so I can make a Negative/Phantom Zone deck;)
...
A Fantastic Four Enemy/Superman Enemy combo theme deck? That would be the pinnacle of all that is awesome!
But I promised myself before I started this game that I wouldn't play any decks that don't make sense. I've got to think of a reason why they'd team up.
Wait a minute... the answers right in your post! Superman gets fed up with the revolving door at Stryker's Island, so he blasts all his enemies into the Phantom Zone. Well it turns out the Phantom Zone and the Negative Zone are both just part the Twilight Zone, so everybody in those two universes decides to pick up some Skrull buddies, stop by Latveria for some drinks, and then go cause some trouble!
Or maybe Toyman and Puppet Master just meet at Hobby Hut. That's good too.
