prob since so many marvel movies are in the works/coming out, plus the popularity of marvel and the excitement and energy surrounding the vs system - may be important marketing-wise to produce the sets while people are eager for the cards, and provide them in a timely manner for the fans who don't want to wait (or the momentum of the game might fizzle and then they would be sunk)
They've mentioned the Spidey set is to provide synergy with the movie, hence Spidey vs. Doc Ock. The DC set is important because a lot of people prefer DC to Marvel and would rather pick that up. Some people may collect one universe exclusively. The great thing is that we'll be playing X-Men vs. Teen Titans and Spiderman vs. Batman before you know it.
I think the important thing is getting enough cards out there early enough in the game's life. Supporting the Vs. System with a set every two or three months for the first year is a good idea because then it will have enough cards out there to keep people interested in making decks. It's all about options. Later on they could potentially slow down their production but I'm hoping it stays on the quick-track. It's always nice to have something new to burn a little money on.
Absolutely WarHulk. One of the first questions a diehard Marvel fan will have is where's a strong Spidey and Doc Ock? Here they are, right in May. DC fans will want to know where their Batman stuff is. Voila!
Particularly in the first year of a game, you gots to give the people what they want. The compatibility of the cards right down to the same logo on the back shows Upper Deck knows what we want and are giving it to us. Superman and Hulk team up for much smashing of things? Not a problem! Reed Richards and Bruce Wayne together for a scientific trivia contest? Not a problem! The sheer amount of fun we are about to have boggles the mind. This is gonna be one heck of a ride. Thanks, Upper Deck, for being the company to finally get a comic book license right.
Yeah, the quicker we get Batman vs Doom the better.
I'd imagine eventually they'll re-up past decks. But the way I see it, there is still a satelite X team needed. I need a Cannonball card!
And then there's other universe cards like Age of Apocalypse, Kingdom Come etc...
there's no shortage of material. They could still re-up the deck with new companies like Image and Wildstorm (That's be sweet, although I wonder how they would do an Authority deck without making it insane.)
