So the games been released for almost a week, but Im sure most of us have played far before that and many, many, many games already. My question to all of you is, what do you think is going to start to dominate the tournament and set the metagame?
It's balanced, but I do believe that we'll see quite a few cookie-cutter decks pop up soon enough, some decks are after all easier to play and build than others. My early bet is either on the Brotherhood or the FF since they are relatively easy to play/construct decks with. :ermm:
FF... easy to construct? Ha, tell that to my booster pulls! I've yet to get any FF plot twists/locations... or any version of Thing for that matter! :surprised
Ok, sorry bout that. As for my opinion on decks we'll see, I'm guessing that there'll be (at least early on) many Brotherhood and X-Men decks. Thanks to the starters, you already have a good handfull of useful cards for them. And their tactics are fairly straightforward (like BH's speed beatdown).
I agree with the thought that early on alot of X-men and Brotherhood decks will be common. I have only played with the starter, but using Jean Grey to feed Colossus was potent in those games. Hopefully the game will be about new ideas, not broken combos, and hopefully, if there are some broken combos, then we will get some silver bullets rather than banned cards.
To believe that a game is perfectly balanced is very difficult to swallow.
If you work through the game as our local has you will see two main deck types emerge as top tier. As all games have a superior strategy so does this one.
Also, keep in mind that we are playing with a small card pool. All ccgs in their infancy will give way to a couple of dominant decks until there is a larger pool to support other tactics/strategies.
The game as it stands is about resource curve and deck manipulation.
Find the deck that does this the best and you will have the best deck.
I will spare you which deck that is as it is always better to just play the game and find out for yourself. Then you will know how to play with and against the deck.
If I just spoonfed you the deck I am cheating you of becoming a better player yourself. Not that I really want better players to play against out there, but it does keep us on our toes when we play odd decksthat we have never faced before.
Now go manipulate what I gave you and make better decks.
Well... just like most other strategic games, there are types of decks easier to make than others. At a demo last night, one of the VSRealms guys showed and told me about a few decks that are pretty awesome. They aren't your typical BH or XM decks with endurance burn and beatdown and they require some card combos but if you get them out, it's pretty much game over.
And he was able to demonstrate their "drawability" in a game situation. It's those kind of decks I expect to see in the tournies.
I have read over these cards over and over again...trying to find an awesome deck. I have come to the conclusion that the 2 best strategies are beatdown and burn. Unless someone can tell me otherwise. I hear some of you talking about deck manipulation, but in this game there is hardly any deck manipulation. The litte bit of manipulation that does exist, is team specific for best results. If you consider the average game lasts about 6 turns then you are only drawing 16 cards from a 60! card deck. So basically you have 44 cards you didnt even see. I cannot even figure how you are suppose to build a stategy with such a huge deck. Play 4 copies of cards so you can see them all at once. Can someone enlighten me because this is starting to frustrate me. How can you talk about balance when it looks like luck to me.
gottr - i understand your frustration. i think that beatdown and burn decks are the most direct and have simple but effective tactics, and therefore will be the most used early on.
there is a level of deck manipulation in this game, and the FF do it well. They are often able to scrounge up equipment left and right, more than just from the 16 cards you mention. and what about something like Cerebro for the X-men?
manipulation and control of the pace of the game is powerful, but you must also have some type of attack or win tactic. it must serve a larger purpose or it won't amount to much if you can't finish your opponent.
Your right FF does have alot of searching abilities, with a good amount of high level characters. So I guess that makes this the best deck. Cerebro is good for manipulating your deck, BUT you only get characters and you must discard the same amount you put into your hand, good for collosus. Someone said that a FF deck was easy to build, but I have built every deck but a FF because I thought it was the most complicated to build.
I have a strategy building in my mind for a very quick and very nasty Brotherhood/Doom deck. This combinds the Quick Brotherhood beatdown with the excellent plot twist help of a Doom deck. I have yet to fully build it but I have an idea of exactly what cards I need. It should be pretty vicious.
I see a Brotherhood/F4 Burn deck being pretty awesome, as well. What with Pyro, Rare Human Torch, 4 advanced hardware and the baxter building (or is it 4 freedoms plaza?). Have some War on Humanities and Mutant Supremecy cards in there for some nastiness... yes, very nice indeed.
