Wolverine James Howlet Question

Can you still discard an x-men character to prevent stunning him if he is already exhausted? Like if i attack with him does can i still prevent the stunning of him?

You are still able to use his ability, as the only conditions to the ability are "If Wolverine is in your front row..." and "...would become stunned."
