This weekend was exceptionally fun. It was also an eye opening experience. I have been playing Magic for years. I have been playing other TCG's for ...blah blah blah...
I'll get to the point.
No one who was there that I played, or talked to was an expert in this game. The field is wide open. There will be LOTS of doom decks copied off the winner at Knoxville at the next PCQ. But, as soon as Spidey vs Doc Oc Starter is released, those cards are pretty much immediately legal.... which means that the dynamic of the game will change, immediately.
All of us made some semblance of stupid mistakes in each game we played, and I'm sure we missed half the available tricks available to us on every hand we held. The one person who won had less mistakes and took advantage of more of his/her available tricks.
We are looking at an amazing game here. There is so much that is still available to us as far as strategy it's mind boggling... and when a new set is released, adding more depth... my brain may explode!!!!
I think Marvel is here to stay. If the way the event this weekend in Knoxville was held is any indicator as to how they'll be supporting the game, it looks like Magic could lose a large percentage of players.... Freshness is paramount to a TCG, and Magic is becoming more and more stale as the sets are released...
I agree. I have been playing with a fantastic four deck. Every time I play it, I find a combo that I had not thought of. Or something different comes out of the cards that I have on a particular turn. Yesterday, I built a doom deck. I have only play tested it once. But, holy bujeezus, the possibilities. What a great game. I was scheduled to play a yugioh qualifier this weekend, but that has been blasted away to play the marvel pcq. I can't wait.
I've only played 2 games and those were with the 2-player starter. I won both games, but didn't really figure anything out about the game until the last turn of game 2 when I did 31 "damage."
I won't give up Magic for this game. However, I will now be playing 2 games at a high level. It may kill my wallet....but I'll have a blast doing so.

Wow, that read like poetry. Nice work, great point.
Vs. is a very odd game actually. Unlike Overpower, the first time I played it I liked it but I wasn't instantly in love with it. It seemed ok and the Brotherhood was nifty and all that but it hadn't hooked me yet. I played a few more games and liked it more... but I still wasn't totally addicted.
I started buying tons of cards and I effectively have a complete set (not a playing set tho lol) and built up a Doom deck that seemed fun. I started playing some matches this weekend and that's when I truly realized how brilliantly fun this game is. Perhaps it was the new style of deck I was using (Doom as opposed to Brotherhood stuff)... but I was just having a blast. I can't wait to hook more and more people in this game and to travel around playing in different tournies and whatnot.
And I can't WAIT for new cards to hit so I can fuel Doom. :)
