"Roy Harper, the orphaned son of a U.S. Ranger, has undergone many changes since his introduction to the DC universe. Growing up idolizing the Green Arrow and training extensively with a bow and arrow, Roy’s debut as a true super hero came in More Fun Comics #73. Drawing beads alongside his hero (and at that point, legal guardian), Roy actually manages to draw a shot before Oliver Queen (Green Arrow), a deed which earns him the name “Speedy.” Speedy went on to become a member of the Teen Titans, replacing founding member Aqua Lad, and would eventually be referred to as a founding member himself. Armed with a quiver of tricks similar to Ollie’s, Speedy became a vital member of the team and continued to look up to Queen.
All that would change, however, when Oliver Queen teamed with the Green Lantern and Black Canary to fight terrorism. Without his mentor for support, Roy turned to drugs and became an addict. Helped through his addiction by Green Lantern and Canary, Roy then turned his sights on a different battle: fighting the war on drugs. Becoming a government agent, he added a number of more modern weapons to his repertoire, and after a long line of disillusioning experiences, he hung up the Speedy moniker forever. What remained was a new Roy Harper; even faster and more decisive, the new Roy took advantage of his excellent marksmanship instincts through the use of various firearms. Able to turn virtually any available object into a deadly weapon, he took on the name Arsenal. (New Titans #99)
Roy Harper <> Arsenal, Sharpshooter
Character, Teen Titans, Recruit 3
Range
Exhaust a Teen Titans character you control >>> Roy Harper gets +2 ATK this turn.
Activate, KO a resource you control >>> Stun target character with ATK less than Roy Harper's ATK."
Haha another diamond double named character. So if Roy Harper • Arsenal is a 3 drop, then Roy Harper • Speedy better a 1 drop. The first effects cool, but the KO a resource ability is a bit costly....unless of course theres a Titan twist similar to The New Brotherhood...
With a roster of several dozen bordering on nearly 100 that have been a Titan, a reserve, an ally, or an aid, UDE can take several Titans for 1 and 2 drops actually. Like Speedy and Robin from the original days. Changeling before he learned control (as in, his early Beast Boy days) the ORIGINAL Batgirl (now...Flamebird isn't it?), and heck, Vic Stone (Cyborg's) dad, the creator of Titan's Tower.
Why there's a nice 1 drop. An architect type that prevents the KO of a location in your resource row if you shuffle the character back in your deck (or KO it). Goes nicely with Arsenal. The KO goes nicely with Arsenal -and- Starfire.
If Baby Wildebeest gets on the team at all (and I hope he does, because I love him to death) he'll probably be a one drop, because of his obscureness.
8 characters below the 3 drop spots is exactly the same as the Brotherhood, so that gives us some indication of how big this team might be.
And the Grabher-Meister is back! I thought you said you wouldn't be doing any previews, you sly fella. Well I'm glad you are because I can't get enough of them.
Yeah, I was pretty dang surprised, actually. O_O Pleasantly so.
It was sort of a fun one to write since Harper's one of those characters whose obscurity (to some people) justifies a little recap of who he was and how the card portrayed him. I think a big appeal of Vs. is that the characters aren't just numbers and effects: they're often surprisingly cohesive portrayals of real characters, and I like having an excuse to highlight that.
...I think my overall geekatude just rose like, 8%.
Now I just need to figure out what to name my new column...

Gloomy, you really are one of us.

Thanks for doing the recap on his background. Hopefully we can get sort of a comprehensive background for the lesser known DC characters that come out on this site after the set comes out and future DC sets. *Hint hint Bizarro* :P Outside of Batman and some Superman stuff my DC knowledge fades. Which kinda sucks because some of the stuff looks cool and I like to have some sort of idea of who the characters are that I might play. Can't wait for some new stuff to come out, I'd like to see the field vary a bit at the qualifiers.

I don't think that it will be necessary for me to anything, as DC will probably get it's own Beyond Creative.
If you have any questions though, don't hesitate to ask.
I will hold judgement until we see the whole set, because I'm sure UDE knows what they are doing =) You can imagine your opponents surprise though when you pump up Arsenal several times, then have this measely 3-drop KO their big guns.
And thanks for the character description. That was great.
Ugh, besides the usage of Nasty surprise, I dont like this guy one but... then again, I hate tanking my resource at any point. Maybe DC will have some quip that lets us toy with the 'sources a little more?
Just to make cards like this a little more viable.
I'm glad to see Arsenal! I find him to be very interesting. His first power is absolutely awesome. Equip a little Smoke Cloud on this strapping young man and you have yourself one nasty guy that can attack without fear of being stunned. Roy alone makes it look like the titans and brotherhood are going to go together quite well. Pump up with 1 cost characters then whack someone huge or Blind Side a little guy and watch the opponent cry. Marvel Team-Up and you have a nice target for savage land.
The cons to poor Roy? very easily overloaded (but having him equiped with a smoke cloud should protect him when attacking, correct?) and I don't see using his second ability often. Most def levels are close to the attk levels and you're KOing a resource just to save Roy? I like him but I'm not THAT fond of him.
If you didn't have to exhaust him to use his second option I'd like him much better and I'd actually use the second option, but if that were the case EVERYONE would be playing him.
All around, great card. I'm dying for the first week of July to come around so I can get my hands on these wonderful cards.
