The cards are there, but are they just there to get kids without a massive collection a few new ideas for sub-par decks?
Is the Hybrid tourney worthy? I've been working on it, but have the hardcore playtesters? What's everybodys take on hybrid decks?
So far there have been three combinations I've been working on.
F4/X-Men: I call the deck Jimmy-rigged. It's an equipment/draw/swarm deck. The key is versatility. High on locs, high on equipment, high on characters, low on Plot Twists. With the lack of PT's and the fire power/support it's capable of landing on the field without that many excessive PT's early on it is somewhat of an anti-Doom deck. Equipment and locations take the place of PT's and with Forge and the Pogo Plane at my disposal I can get the cards I want just as easily as a Doom deck. It packs a lot of different cards, making it hard for my opponent to target cards that will cripple the deck.
Doom/Bhood: so far this deck has been only made in my brain and is strictly theoretical. Low locs, no equipment ('cept maybe a micro-compressor) and packed with the painful PT's that only Doom and the BHood are capable of. It's different from conventional Doom where as you don't have to wait for the strangle hold to start dealing out the pain, but gives you enough tricks to stall when you need to. The Bhood element does not rely on any of their staple locations so much as their PT's (TNB, War on Humanity, etc.) that Boris is adapt at retrieving. Basically the only Doom character represented is Doom himself (or in his other 'doom is in play' incarnations) while Bhood fills the ranks with Magneto, Pyro, (Destiny/Phantazia/Lorelai), Quiksilver, etc.
Spider friends/ X-Men: Again, this deck is only beginning to take form in my head, but a draw-heavy, unstunnable super-team is what I'm seeing. Madame-Web, Cerebero, Longshot, and BOO can fill your hand. Kurt Wagner, Cyclops (SS), DD, and Spiderman (FNSM) are all unstunnable. The potential is there.
So what does everybody think? Is anyone else as hybrid-happy as I am or am I just wasting my time. Ideas, comments, opinions? I think this topic should be more thoroughly explored.
Well, if you check the tourney reports, Doom/FF and X/Hood have been fairly successful, even one X/FF has been successful.
X/FF has been thought of as great synergy by one of the games designers, but has yet to be played to its' strengths.
Doom/FF basically reuses some of the best PTs in the game and has an excellent curve.
X/Hood also has a mean early curve and can shine in both early and late game, depending on the build.
X/Doom has been toyed around with but has yet to see any success or even play in the major tournaments.
Those are the team-ups that have been built into the game for now, all other combinations would have to rely on one team-up card, and therefore are much trickier to build let alone tourney-viable. This hasn't stopped people from dreaming up Skrull/Sentinel, Doom/Sentinel, X/Sentinel, SS/Hood, Doom/anything,....
Out of your combos, FF/X and Spidey/X seem good in theory, but in the current environment, are not easy to pull off. Spidey still has a ways to go before it can really team up with anything. (especially Spidey/--- Team ups hopefully coming in the next set)

Actually I made a deck out of that expansion and it's really rocking the tier type decks such as the TNB, FF Beats, Doom Control, Sentinel and Xmen decks. I'll just tell the components of my deck soon, tournament is near here in our country :)
