With Doomstadt and Latveria being more common, more popular in deck builds, and apparently more useful since both make it hard for Doom to be taken out in combat, does anyone use the Throne Room? and if so, why? It's a bit expensive for its effect it seems, and can ruin your draws you'd otherwise get. Plus the discard...
If someone uses this just to cycle through the deck to good stuff, why not use Base of Operations instead? or do you run both also?
Just trying to find a use over this card instead of say, Boris, Base of Ops, and other cards depending on what you want.
The only reason NOT to use Throne Room is for fear of Ka-Boom slowing down your curve. Otherwise it is amazing, especially in location-heavy decks. You basically get extra plot twists in exchange for extra locations and low drops that are dead in your hand. It also cycles your deck faster, which is a good thing. It in no way "ruins" your draws because it is letting you look at twice as many cards as you would normally look at. What if that Sub-Mariner is 10 cards down? Even if it chucks one on the bottom, it gets you to your other copies faster.
See TB, I agree with you for the most part, but WHERE DO YOU FIT THEM IN? My Doom deck is always bursting as-is, and that's including when I remove parts of my toolbox to play against people they're usless against (Flame Trap against FF, etc.). Even if I just threw in 2, that's two more PTs that are likely coming out. I agree that since Doom is the primary character you need, and since you can FoD for him (which this card helps), potentially dumping good characters isn't as big of a blow as it might be.
You don't need a big "toolbox". One Flame Trap and maybe one relocation (if you aren't running any) are all that you really need that fit the "toolbox" description. Here are the mandatory plot twists as I see them:
4 Faces of Doom
1 Flame Trap
4 Reign of Terror
Everything else depends on the deck. For example, beatdown decks might not use Mystical Paralysis or Acrobatic Dodge. Putting a bunch of other varied plot twists in just makes your deck lose focus. The reason that you pack flame trap and maybe relocation is that you have a bad matchup against decks that those cards hose. There is no reason to throw a bunch of other junk in there that doesn't really address any glaring weakness.
Throne Room helps you get these cards as well as your staple plot twists in your hand in greater quantity.
when i first saw the throne room i thought it was good..
it lets u cycle thru ur deck and find PTs you need
need an acrobatic dodge but dont hav boris?
u could always try ur luck w/ throne room and mayb find
something that would help you
and i agree w/ TB, the fear of Kaboom is the worst drawback
and in some Doom decks space is an issue as well
