* The Air Conditioning was not working very well and with 90 pluse people in the store it got really hot. If it was just the VS Tournament, it would have been ok, but there was a Magic and Lord of the Rings tournament going on at the same time
* Had to wake up a 5:30 to get there on time, ending up going a bit too fast and got my first ever speeding ticket on the way down ;-/
* Standard edition instead of First Edition was used for the Sealed event, the Top Eight Booster, and prize support. This is the first time a PTO has used standard and I am a little dissapointed.
The Good
* The tournout was decent. We had like 22 for the sealed and I think 30 for the constructed.
* I didn't have to judge!!!!!!
* All the people I met were friendly, but then again, 99% of the time the Marvel players have been good folk.
* I got to meet Typhon
* I won the sealed event and got my invite to the PCQ ;-)
In the 5 rounds a swiss, I got a good deck and it was a good thing because it made up for my horrible play errors. I had three 6 drops, 7 Drop Mr Fantastic, and 8 Drop Doom, and some good plot twist.
In the Top eight, it was like I was in a zone, I think those were the best three matches I've played todate. I don't recall making a single play error and I ended up sweeping the top eight. The card that brought it home for me was Surprise Attack. I snagged 4 of them in the draftand ran them all. Most games I got out 3 and once I got out all 4.
Congrats Chad! It was great to meet you, and hope to see you at the net Atlanta PCQ. I'll probably be posting more stuff about Atlanta Area 'play'... if you're around. Just stay tuned! :)
I had lots of fun even though I did horribly :-p Im still learning the game, though so i guess thats okay :) I do have an excuse in sealed though. My biggest guy was 6 drop mystique and she was my only 6 drop. Constructed I went 1-1 and then the air conditioning broke and I couldnt bear to stick around. I met En-kur, Foamy, Grimmer and Typhon and they were pretty nice guys. All in all, was a pretty fun day despite my scrubbing out and the lack of cold air.
cdaniel: Im guessing you were the one in the magic shirt (I think it was a magic shirt) that was talking about the krark-clan ironworks combo everytime someone mentioned something about magic? I was the kid in the yellow NC had. There were 3 yellowhats there but eh.. (Btw, that combo isnt that great :p very easily disrupted:)) Congrats on winning the Q! Good luck in indy!
Phillip 'Mos Def' Gillis won the contructed, beating out warmachine. I'll have the deck lists later today (I hope). I ended up placing ~3rd ... stupid overloads!!!
I don't feel nearly so bad about my loss to Mos Def then. He had a strong deck and at least we went to three games :-) Those bumper cars suck!
Meeting En-Kur and War Machine was cool. Also, all of my opponents (Jacob Sweat, Andrew 'csa_magnus' Mattei, Phillip 'mos def' Gillis and his friend Jason) were all good guys.
All in all, I had a great time in my first PCQ and I'm looking foward to seeing more folks at Origins next week. Hopefully next week my deck will work better, I won't make as many play mistakes as I made yesterday and the AC won't die mid-way through the tournament causing me to sweat like a ice sculpture under a heat lamp.

Yeah that was me ;-)
And grats to Phill, that was his forth PCQ and he had made the Top 4 in the other previous, so it was only a matter of time he won. Grats Typhon on 3rd.
Typhon, you made me use tricks I mostly hold back for En-Kur. I think I enjoyed our games the most of the whole weekend (the draft and the pcq). You are definatly not to be taken lightly when slinging cards. See you at origins!
hey wazzup board i was at the pcq also and technically came in 3rd typhon because i lost to the [fatal-edit] in the top 4 and he ended up winning. anyways i'm somewhat upset to see that said person ended up winning the whole thing after he technically rules lawyered me out of the tournament and my $250. his only excuse was that he kept on playing and could never win so he couldnt pleep at night so he had to screw me out of the victory (which was mine because i had already demolished him in the finals just the week before in charlotte and i was going to win the game before he srewed me over on a technicallity) so i hope he can sleep at night when he realized how he won. besides that the tourny was great lots of great people came down to T&t toys where is my regular play testing spot. my only wish is that we had a competent judge there that new about vs and didnt just run every ccg tourny in the area for the money he makes.
peace.....
When someone says they were rules lawyered out of something, it usually means, they made a mistake and got mad when their opponant would not let them take it back. People just do not understand the level of play that is needed for a Pro Circuit Qualifer and should not expect their opponants to let them do take backs.
I'm not sure what happened, but once you state an action, move a character, do whatever, you are stuck with it.
cdaniel im pretty sure u were the judge at heroescon in charlotte the week before and u watched me win in the finals againts the same person so i know how to play and i will explain the situation for the rest. it is turn five and he has ant man with a fantasticar and she hulk with a fantasticar and heavy hitter thing. i have 3 drop quicksilver, feral rage, and 5 drop magneto. now this is the fourth time in a 2 pcqs i have played this guy so we know each others decks very well. so i say that sabretooth is attacking thing and he asks me if i pass? i know his deck is running entangle so i pass to give him a shot to respond to the attacking and possibly entangle my sabretooth with his heavy hitter. but the he says i passed and he passes so now my sabretooth is stunned and his thing isnt. this was outrageous because there is no way i would attack with a weaker guy and then not pump him with whats in my hand while i have priority. so because i passed to give him time to entangle my guy before the attack was leagal he made me pass priority through the whole attack and loose my guy and the match. so u all can take this as u please but if he didnt rules lawyer me on that play i would have won my second pcq in less than a week.
peace out
What Chad said is right. However, if Feral Rage wasn't yet exhausted, all you had to do was stay calm and explain to the judge that your FR hadn't yet got the attacker designation. Therefore, you couldn't possibly be in damage resolution.
Here is how you want to do your attack.
1. Announce the attack(Feral Rage vs HH)
2. Pass/Pass
3. Exhaust FR
4. Play a PT let it resolver via pass/pass
5. If you need to then play another PT or pump via LC.
6. Let all that resolve. via pass/pass
I just want to agree with everyone else about how much I enjoyed my first PCQ. I was the guy in the red bandana. I really wish David Leader and I could have played our first match. It would have helped both of our tiebreakers trememdously. Oh well, I guess that is just the way things go sometime. I definitely want to say again that Marvel Pcq's are definitely one of the best tournaments I have atteneded if for no other reason than the comraderie everyone shows as opposed to just being bloodthirsty about every single game. It is nice to be in an enviroment where the members can still be competitive, but not at everyone elses throat throughout the entire day. Btw, Typhon I really liked your record keeping system. I never played you head to head, but I saw it in action quite a bit.
