Hey everybody, I'm planning to start up in Vs very soon. Been looking at tutorials, faqs, guides and et cetera and have a general idea of how to play the game. Can anyone suggest some decks that are good for newbies starting out?
Firstly, welcome to the site. You've chosen a great game to get into. :)
As for your question, we don't really have a defined "newbie friendly" deck (which, I assume, is why you haven't gotten many responses). Just get the starter to begin with and practice with the sampling of X-Men and Brotherhood first, which I suppose is pretty easy. Then, as you become more sure of the rules, deck ideas will jump at you.
As some of the other folks have said, buying a starter will let you get used to the actual playing of the game without complicating things overly much. They are split into two 40 card team decks, so all you will need is another person. I have kept my starters together, so if I am out somewhere and someone asks about the game, I can just pull one out and let them play.
There are two starters out now, X-Men vs. Brotherhood and Spider-Friends vs. Sinister Syndicate. The actual boosters for Spider-Man aren't out yet, so I don't recommend that deck highly. The DC origins set will be out soon, and the starter for it has the Gotham Knights (Batman and co.) vs. The Arkham Inmates (Joker and co.). I recommend the X-Men/Brotherhood starter or the DC starter, because when you buy boosters, the teams in these decks will be represented, along with some others.
As far as good decks go... Can't say. Used to be Brotherhood, straightforward and efficient, but the DC set is going to change alot.
It all depends on your budget, but a booster box will set you back between $60-75, and a starter between $10-15. Who's your favorite team/character?
X-Men, Brotherhood, Sentinels, Fantastic Four, or Dr. Doom? Buy Marvel.
Gotham Knights, Arkham Inmates, Teen Titans, Fearsome Five, or League of Assassins (Ra's Al Ghul)? Buy DC.
Whatever you like best, keep. Trade the rest to get more of what you like. Everything works to a greater or lesser degree, so you may as well play what you like.
