Question: How do I know if I can host?

If you are on a modem connection, you can probably host unless you are running a software firewall like ZoneAlarm, the XP firewall, or Norton Internet Security.

If you are on a broadband connection, you probably cannot host if you have a router and have not configured it the Virtual Server/Port Forwarding settings.

Does bring up a question I was just pondering: what's the common port for playing online? I will need to set up port-forwarding for my firewall, and I haven't seen which port is used by default.

As long as you open the port you are using, and the person trying to connect what port to use, you are all set.

Thanks. I figured as long as everyone was agreeing on the port it wasn't a big deal. I just didn't know if there was a default.
