I have Dragon Man alive, and Doom and a Sentry are stunned. He has Hulk stunned, and Johnny and Reed (2-drop) alive.
He plays Overpowered, as I have 2 stunned and he has 1.
I respond with Flame Trap. I Stun his Reed.
My question: Do I still discard? It says that all players with more stunned characters than him discard 5 cards, but by the time it executes I have the same number.
This came up tonight and we couldn't settle on a solution. Any help?
I'm inclined to say that since Overpowered does not target, it's condition must be met upon resolution.
I may have the wrong reason but I do know that when it tries to resolve, you will not have to dump the top five cards of your library into your KO'd pile.
Based on answers given to my own timing question thread, effects on the chain aren't negated by subsequent effects?
In the case I suggested in my thread, as a reaction to something else, Dazzler activates, then a Sentinel MkI activates to stun her.
Now, by effects on the chain, Sentinel would stun Dazzler before her effect takes place, but I was told her effect would still occur?

This is not a comparable situation.
Overpowered affects your opponents upon resolution.
This means its condition must also be true upon resolution.
So the effect is not negated; it's just wasted.
As for effects and their sources:
Rule 505.4 Once an effect is on the chain, it exists independently of its source. Removing the source of the effect does not negate the effect.
1) With Dazzler, you have to pay the cost before the arrow and then you set the effect on the chain of "Stun Character X".
2) With Overpowered, you place the effect on the chain of "If target opponent has more stunned characters then discard 5 cards".
Thus, when the chain resolves, Overpowered still has a condition attached to it. When you get to the Dazzler effect, there's no condition attached to it.
Just to futher clarify, even if I responded to Dazzler's power by using Burn Rubber to move her target into the front row, she STILL gets me, doesn't she?

No.
Targets must be legal upon announcement and upon resolution.
Since she can only exhaust a support row character, the effect will be negated when it attempts to resolve.
