ok so i read the spoiler and saw two bane cards and though two versions of bane would be cool.
then today i bust open my first DC pack and in 5 pack i manage to pull one of each. koolo right...welll not really.
it seems to me that Bane- man who broke the bat and Bane- ubu are two different characters....there is also another character called Ubu.
so if the two banes are different characters why arnt they named differently...under the way they are now, you can use the Bane-ubu to power up Bane mwbtb. this seems like an error which should have been caught...
or am i totally misstaken and they are the same guy, and if they are...who is Ubu and why isnt he able to power up bane?
The guy who BECAME Bane WAS Ubu. Ubu is a title of position. He's the Demon Head's right hand and bodyguard. Then he struck out on his own and became Bane.
Ubu is the new Ubu. He has no true name on the card because he's declaring his position basically. So the Bane: Ubu was Bane before he became Bane. And Bane from AI team is Bane himself.
So Bane can power up any Bane also.

I'm pretty sure Bane started as Bane, considering he became Bane after escaping from Santa Prisca, where he was born. I haven't read the story in awhile(have it somewhere), butI THINK the Bane-Ubu thing came from a time where Ghul was looking for an heir to his empire tocouple with Talia. Bane was his choice, and became Ghul's Ubu, the one with the mask. The other Ubu is the most common one, and the one used before Bane...he's just Ubu.
Ra's decided that Batman was no longer a worthy mate for Talia, and chose Bane instead. Bane had already been "Bane", and had already snapped Batman in half.
Check out the Legacy storyline, that's where it's covered, and it's the first meeting of Batman/Bruce Wayne and Bane after the back breaking......
actually ubu is the family name, passed down to each successor in the line. a comment is made about it in the tower of babel or the superman/batman/ wonder woman book.
and the way the game is currently running, the continuity of the books is of very little consequence to game play.
while the game takes it's origins from the comics, it leaves them behind frequently in light of game play.
I remember someone from the VS System design (or was it development?) team mentioning that both the Marvel and DC "universes" take place "out of time." That is, it doesn't follow any true continuity, which is why you can have people fighting on the same team, even when they were never really on the team at the same time.
Also, you can have "dead" heroes/villains fighting along rookie heroes/villains, and so on and so forth.
True, it might butcher the current storylines of Marvel/DC, but the way they've been doing it is probably for the best, as it would be WAY too complex to make it relevant in regards to current stories - having it be in a sort of "time vacuum" is cool in many ways.
it would totally butcher the game to set up a timeline mechanic.. although the uniqueness rule makes sure you don't have paradox's sorta.. it would be completely horrible if they did set it up where you couldn't play your favorite dead hero right?
The timeline idea would certainly put a nail in the fun coffin. Just consider all of the ackward temups as elsewhere worlds stories.
Plus, I like the idea of having 6 flash characters in play.
