Why would you need Apprentice with MTGPlay?

I was just wondering, because it says you need it for the tourneys online, and I just want to get used to it... Yet, I don't want to use it if I don't need to...

You don't. The current tournament is using Apprentice, the next one will use MTGPlay. The rules and match guide will be updated before the next tournament.
