We have VS tournaments in the US... but what about the UK?!
Since the bad organisation of the YGO nationals this year (I had to drop from the 32 nationals so I could catch the last train home, very de-moralizing :()
I've been put off YGO a bit.
It tooks ages for UDE to start up YGO over here, but how long for VS? I'm still a newb but I need the experience and I want to meet other VS players.
Aparently there was an event in Birmingham this past weekend (10th/11th July). I have not heard anything definite on that though. There is a PCQ planned for October at Butlin in Minehead (so depending on where you live in wales, it shouldnt be a huge journey). The PCQ will be held during the GEN-CON UK convention. Check their website for details (sorry I dont have the URL handy).
I am starting a UK playtest group (see the link in my sig) and hopefully we can help to spread information about official events.

From what I understand, the first prize was 500 euros. Which personally I don't get. It would be like holding a PCQ in the US and giving the prize in Australian dollars!
Originally posted by Lt. Cabbage I wouldn't say the Birmingham PCQ was badly organised. Yeah, you had to play sealed first, but that was made clear on the tournament entry details.
There is a PCQ this Saturday in London. Details can be found through the tournament locator on UDE's website.
Did you attend and compete? If so, I would love to read a tourny report if you get time to write one.
I did attend. Because I was jammy with the cards I got, I finished first in the sealed deck, went on to the booster draft and ended up second in that.
I'd love to write a report but I just can't remeber enough detail to make a decent stab at one. You play all these funny cards in sealed / draft and all the games merge into one blur!
A summary would be:
In sealed I ended up with 6-drop Doom, Hulk, Thing TELBET, Apocalypse, Signal Flare, Common Enemy and Marvel Team Up so my deck was pretty nails and it went 4-0. The closest game was, amusingly, against the guy who had the packs that I opened. He had a similar deck but 7-drop Prof X instead of Thing and Unlikely Allies instead of Common Enemy. I'm not sure he had Doom either, so basically I had the advantage.
In draft I wound up with some X-Men, some Sentinels (!), Apocalypse and defensive stuff. The, err, strategy was to stall enough until I could get Apocalypse came out. It worked in a couple of games. I somehow managed to get through the semi-final only to lose 1-2 in the final against someone who clearly knew how to draft better than me. He had a Doom / FF Burn deck which was really quite good.
I only found out about the tournament last week but I should have posted the details on these boards. It completely slipped my mind; sorry 'bout that.
Sealed and draft is good for practise and lets you explore the game more. Its good to actually see a tournament running based on them. I cant wait until the next VS Tournament! Looking forward to playing!
