so i dont know if you guys noticed but the sentinels have quite the following. and it almost seemsa as though those how play sentinels have a brother ship going for them.
as is in case with the thread Who runs sentinels? and how do you run them?? . this thread is 5 months old and still running strong.
Curse you Stubarnes and you sentinels...J/K
i think if we are gonna make x-men teir one we have to get a following like this going too. so every one that wants to see a good x-men deck start winning in some tourneys post ideas and thoughts here. we will have no name calling here. there will be no one telling you x-men will never work....this thread is for making the x-men live in the VS world. now join me in my fight!!!
seriously though, lets get together all the ideas and see if we can make something work. let this thread at least be able to help newbies catch up on where the x-men are and what they are capable of!
I am currently working on a X-men deck. It currently is built this way.
Characters:
Longshot x4
Nightcrawler, KW x4
Cyclops, Slim x4
Wolverine, Logan x4
Shadowcat, PotX x2
Rogue, PA x4
John Proudstar x2
Archangel, AoD x4
Colossus x2
Emma Frost x2
Professor X, WMPT x2
Locations:
Cerebro x4
Seige Perilous x4
Plot Twists:
Children of the Atom x4
Bamf! x4
Flying Kick x4
Ultimate Sacrifice x3
No Fear x3
One of my biggest decisions, at least right now is whether to use the No Fear's or if I would be better off with Press the Attack. Thanks in advance, for any input.
now that is a tuff call. you build is very simmilar to the one im running right now, but i also play the discard theme along with the recover beat. and reall the only diffence is the fact i play 5 chuck and you play the 7. no fear can be great with the x-men since you rely on your small drops. and press the attack could also make a huge difference in a game specially since with the recovery powers of the x-men you can easily have 4 ehausted character.
the only thing i see with this deck is too much recovery. siege COTA and ultimate.... thats 11 cards in your deck devoted to recovery. i would go with out the ultimate sacs. i have 4 and dont play any. i dont find there to be enough stunned x-men on the doard to make it too usefull.
also have you though about or heard of the x's school/ Team Tactics combo, it is what i run in mine. x's school will let you ready any 3 drop x-men so if your attacking with Logan you can have him tean tactics with him self making him a 12/6 and with bamf that should let you drop any 6 drop.
Really I don't see the point in using Longshot over Dazzler at all. Dazz can at least be effective in the game. I think Longshot is a wasted spot. His ability never comes into play for me and I get to watch all my BAMFs got to the bottom of the deck.
I have been running "Thinking outside the Box" in my Xdeck that Has Longshot, just incase I don't get the cards I want with cerebro Or cards I do want and Don't have a discard I can start pulling from the bottom.
THAT is when longshot comes in handy. You Cerebro... take what you want then Longshot... Take what you can then stack your deck and TOSTB. Works like a charm!
i have found Dazzlers board control presence just to powerful not to have her in any and every x-men deck i build...its just too good, and long shot is not usefull at all with x-men, unless you can find some combo with base of operationa dn night vision to look at the top 2 cards of your deck
Hey, I really want to see the Xmen do well too, but right now I'm a little undecided about how I'm going to do it. Currently I've been working on an Aerial Supremacy deck, concentrating more on my stats rather than non-stun. Also, I took out Dazzler from this deck just because, although she is really, really useful, I'd rather try to strengthen this deck in the direction I'm sending it. This will probably be the only build where I don't use Dazzler actually.
Characters:
x4 Nightcrawler (Although he doesn't actually have flight and range, he can't be stunned anyway)
x? ??????? (Do you think I need another 2 drop?)
x3 Banshee (Flight and Range, and he allows you to command how your opponent sets his board.)
x3 Wolverine (The thing that I hope is to get this guy out with a Jetpack. Along with Aerial Supremacy, he's an 8/8 right there.)
x4 Storm (She fits the theme and can also set me up to take away on of the few things that can keep Archangel's effect working)
x2-4 Rouge (I'm including Power Absorbtion because she has flight, solid 7/7, and you never know when there's an ability you might want to copy.)
x4 Archangel (The Angel of the Death...)
x2-4 Cyclops or Prof. X (on the off hand I don't get Archangel, I can use these guys. Cyclops has range and keeps with the non-stun, Prof. X mainly because I like him, and if I have to defend this turn, him combined with Rouge makes a good 3 cards gone.)
x2-4 Rouge and
x2-4 Storm
(I'm undecided what to use for this drop. I want to use a combination of those two cards, I know that for sure, just don't know how many of each I should use.)
x2 Wolverine or Prof. X (I like Wolverine, personally. I can give this guy a Jet Pack too, adding +2/+2 with Aerial Supremacy. But then there's the Professor, who does have a good effect, however I don't have any experience with him...)
Plot Twists:
4x Childeren of the Atom
4x Acrobatic Dodge
4x Flying Kick
2-4x Nasty Surprise
(My favorite line up of plot twists, plus they're easy to get. I'm also staying with Flying Kick because of the fact that it gives flight to the few Xmen that don't have it, and is an attack boost.)
4x Aerial Supremacy (This card basically says to add +2 defense to every Xmen character with flight you have. In that case, any character that doesn't already have flight get +2/+2 with Jetpack, and if I use Madripoor or Danger Room, that becomes a defense boost equal to that of Acrobatic Dodge.)
x3-4 Aerial Assualt (I can't remember this card name, it's the one that came with the DC starter deck that gave all your characters flight for one turn with +1 attack. I don't think I need to say why I want to use it.)
Locations:
x3 Danger Room (by itself, it isn't much, but with anything else, then it became a lot.)
x3 Madripoor (The same as Danger Room, just a bit reversed.)
x3-4 Cerebro (I have bad luck hitting drops, so I really need to something to help cycle through my deck. This can help. This can also end up doing nothing, but let's hope it does something. My only problem is that it's rare, and I only know one I can trade for right now...)
x? Xavier's Institute (I'm probably going to drop this just because of the fact I used it mostly for reinforcing and with Dazzler, and I think I'm alittle location heavy as it is.)
Equipment:
x3-4 Jetpack (Should I just go all the way and make it 4?)
Anyway, I'm still relatively new to the game, so the deck may not look that sound, so please pick it apart and tell me what I can approve on. I didn't add Seige Perilous because I think have too many locations as it is, and I didn't put Bamf! up there because I doubt I can even get 2 of those, although I might be lucky to get one.

the x-men have no real way to get a 100% 4 guys exhausted in every game, not like skrulls or wilderbeest or GPCD do.
even with dazzler, 4 drop rogue, 5 drop chuck, and emma. you are not gaurenteed to have those out at once, sure it might works in a couple of games, but it is just to situational to me.
now i think to better get the x-men tech going, we need to dissect the x-men different arch-types, and see which ones work , either by themsevle, or a combination of another biuld or theme.
Air Force- using 5 drop archangel, storm, airial supremacy, and the x-men decent flyers, like rogue, banshee, and 2 drop archangle to give you good defesne and offesne, however it is very situational too, relying on your oppoenets, charachters, sure storm can shut down flight, but no one can shut down range, and vs a sentinel or a SS deck with sinister salvo, you won't have a chance to use your air power.
x-bird- this builds uses slim and the x-mens, great low drops, like logan and nightcralwer, with a blackbird for added damage. but in a weenie build when you are droping more charachters than cards you draw, you will run out of cards very fast, and the x-men have no way to get card advantage, and don't even say longshot, cuz he has defected to my vomit deck. and also, their are so many other teamslike titans, TNB, SS, and sents, that just do swarm better.
Mindwipe- the x-men have quite a bit of discard effects, psyloche, 5 drop chuck, emma, 4 drop rogue, and xaveirs shcool. however, discard will not win you fights by itself, it needs to be supplemted by another arch-type, and if you play with the discarders to heavily, you will be at a disadvantage, since they are gernerally weaker in stats, than other drops at their level.
beatdown- with great low drops, and now with proudstar and archangel, they might have the muscles to stand on their own with the other bruisers, this is the easiest and maybe even the most vaible build if team-up with another of the x-men main theme
pheonix lock- this a stall biuld that using, dazzler, puppet master, maybe even banshee and 7 drop chuck, to last until you can make it to turn 8 and set up the pheonix lock. this is probably the best way to do the xavier's dream.
now the x-men have two great sub-theme, that while they don't have enough cards to make them a complete build, they work great supplementing a main arch-tyupe
direct stun- fastball special, power nexus, gambit, and sunfire can directly stun your opponenets charachters, but they all come with some drawbacks, fastball special can only be used on your attack step, and power nexus seems better suited to an x-bird weenie biuld.
recovery- this is where the x-men shine, by utilizing this theme within an arch-type, you can keep your guys on the field longer and outnumber the other side, works even better with some amount of direct stun or KO cards like finishing move and a death in the family.
my current build is a beatdownr, with strong elements of charachter removal, and recovery, with finishing move and COTA i simply can creat very large gaps in the ranks, and allow my bruisers to wade in unafriad of getting stunned because i can recovery them so easily.
So Far it has shown good results in testing, it does have it tough match up's mainly doom and GK and any deck where they are in such as CE and TBTB., cuz of my decks heavy reliance on plot twists.
i will post a decklist and some testing resluts once i have tweaked it to my liking, but i do feel the x-men can be a strong team, maybe teir one. or at least high level teir 2.

I personally think that Press the Attack will do best in an Xmen weenie rush along with a lot team attacks and a reliance of cards like Xavier's Institute. Although if you can think of something cooler I wouldn't mind trying it.
like cyke was pointing out, none of the x-archtypes are strong enough are as strong as another team. but the x-men also have a little thing that most other teams dont have. and its versitility.
my deck is a discard beat cross breed
i wanted to use all the discard options but in testing found, which i should have relised from the begining, that discard does not get your opponent to 0 endurance. so i looked at the x-men beat sticks, wolvie, rogue, proudstar, arch angle, and colossus.
i tossed rogue power house out the window cause i need the PA to help with any needed discarding.
i split the 6 drop ranks with emma and colossus, thanks to all the discard requirments like dazzler and cota, colossus is almost always 16/12
i run 2 proudstars to back up my 4 drop rogue incase she is not found by turn 4 also he makes a great back up 5 drop if chuck and arch are no where to be found.
the only room to be made for such a thing would be to cut juggy since colossus is taking the 7 spot and add one twin fire arms....and the only way to make sure have it is to put forge in the deck, and that puts me back to where alot of my problems started
besides why not put a flamethrower on him....actually i find jet pack to be the best thing for x-men
but equipment takes up ery avluable space in a very full deck
