Well... SoCal should be the official home of the biggest PCQs.
The Constructed had 56 players (the last one was 71).
Top 8 (don't know the exact order yet):
1: Wild Spidey: Our own Bubblemailer/Ludin
2: West Coast Sentinels: Our own Majestic/Patrick (stu... Purple Curve is viable)
3-4: 2 Brave and the Bolds (Joe and Robert)
5-8:
Big Brotherhood: Eric
Medium Brotherhood: Our own CaptainCarl/Carl
Curve Sentinels: Bubblemailer's friend (stu... SoCal is also now the official home of curve Sentinel builds)
Common Enemy: Our own Volcom
Congrats to the winners!!!
Decklists will be posted in the next few days for all the curious (read netdeckers... just kidding).
Oh... and a shout out to Majestic who proved he can pilot "non-viable" decks to the top 8 (that's twice now). It's not just the deck... it's the driver.
And yes foilball/Billy... I still like you too.
Great job by Chris Wong and his staff... the event finished before 10pm and went very smoothly.
I'd assume the second place deck is the same list that beat me in the last round of Swiss in the comic book tournament at GenCon. Who draws triple Search and Destroy against Titans two games in a row? And makes Bastion a 22/22...
well, it was very fun. i was the 13 year old white boy playing the dark phoenix deck. i was surprised, only 2 ppl wore costumes, some kid with a sponegebob costume won the dc box. congrats bubblemailer, im surprised the spidey/wild pack thingy won. i got to play majestic first round, i got the worst draws ever! i drew 3 beasts, 3 boris's, and 3 pleasant distractions. when you draw 3 beasts by turn 2 and miss puppet master and rogue, and dont get doom till turn 5, it kinda means you lost. i was able to get to turn 7, but i didnt have a latveria so i couldnt bomb. i went 5-4, losing one game because of a ruling misconception, one to majestic, one to this doom deck that chained with gamma bomb to dark phoenix (stupid time limit), and once to some heroes united (i had a beast in my first hand, i mulliganned, and drew 3 more beasts!!!!). i am glad to say that the deck volcom used was mine, i let him borrow it for the turney. in the last round, volcom had to play his younger brother, winner goes to top 8. his bro conceded because volcom had better tiebreakers and his bro had already made top 8 at pomona. it was pretty cool, a picture of the field was taken after i busted out dark phoenix.
Originally posted by dawnyoshi see Volcom? Running CE got you no farther than your fun deck. Run the fun deck again, as I'd rather see that in the top 8. =P
very interesting...wild spidey vomit takes first, sents owning common enemy. sweet! little common enemy!
ya it did, he got TNB promo, 6 pax, and a PCC.
hey, thats MY common enemy deck youre talking about, its not my fault he didnt use it right :p
This was a very good PCQ. Chris ran it very well and I finally got a pro point. I was in sealed, but the 5-8th Sentinel build is my friend. At first he didn't even want to run it, but it paid off when he made top 8. Honestly, I'm not surprised that Ludin won. That deck was murderous and can kill almost any deck especially TT/B&B. Well now I gotta work on getting 9 more points in a month. Props to Spongebob dude, that was funny to see at a VS tourney.
I think I played your brother in sealed. no real point in saying that, but yea. That win made me decide that I should stay in sealed. Oh yea and Thanks to Yip for hookin it up!
Ok, let's congratulate Ludin on "winning" the PCQ. However, not to sound like a hater or anything, BUT we have to get some facts straight. Ludin played 3 rounds TOTAL. The rest were concessions. Heck, he didn't play one game in the top 8. Ludin's lucky that all of us were already qualified, so we conceded to him. I had to go through 9 legit rounds in swiss (beat Ludin because he wasn't playing a viable deck, but promised to concede to him in the top 8 if we got that far), as well as 2 grueling 3 game matches in the qtrs and semis. Wouldn't you know, we met in the finals, and I have to fulfill the promise. He did win, so I will give him that, but ask him seriously if he would play that deck again... it's nice to have friends...

Bastion is the most broken 6-drop in the game!
You guys are super-generous, but anyone who plays regularly in SoCal would know that by now.
Thanks for the full disclosure on the tech, too. Not to say that Longshot Spidey isn't viable, but it's good to know that the circumstances it won under weren't totally aboveboard.
Nonetheless, congratulations, Bubblemailer, on paying off with lots practice-- making top 8 out of 56 is no small feat, even with some concessions.
Maybe some netdeckers with no RealmsTech will be bringing that noise to GamerCon on the 20th.
hell no i wouldn't use that deck again. Patrick is the rightful winner. Sentinels won. Get over it, I would have been 8th place if it wasn't for all the people I knew. Thanks again guys, but Patrick is the rightful 1st place guy.
and it was 6 rounds by myself dude. at least gimme that much.
Ludin, I'm just giving you crap because I still can't get over the 42 burn you did on me on turn 5 at the last PCQ. I felt helpless and the fact that you showed me your hand on every turn didn't help. Hey, you're qualified, that's all that matters, no matter how you get there, as long as you get there.
