Unless you draw the "Lay the smack down" plot twist, combine it with the "Outside the ring" location and play an "improvised weapon" equipment card, then no, I don't believe you're allowed to beat your opponent with a chair for playing that combo, even if he's using 5- or 7-drop Reed to get all the equipment for free.
