My Hero gives everybody protection, but offical ruling says protected means they have a character in front of them, so therefore i ask, does My Hero mean that those protected suppot row characters now cannot be attacked unless that character has flight?
You are interpeting it right. Characters that have the protected characteristic, even if only through an effect, can only be attacked by characters with flight (or those who can attack as though they had flight).
That is correct. My Hero targets one of your front row SpiderFriends characters and as long as that character is ready all of your support row SpiderFriends are considered to have the protected status. That means that only characters with flight (or those that can attack as though they had flight) can attack them while the character you targeted with My Hero is ready.
It's important to remember that only the support row character directly behind the chosen front row character is actually protected by whoever you choose when you play My Hero.

Note that the 'hero' does not have to be a Spider-Friends character. However, only Spider-Friends will receive the protected characteristic from My Hero.

Why is this distinction important?
Doesn't the card actually give everyone in the back row protection?

If he is not in the same column, he does not reinforce the front row character.
I see, so the keywords here are "protected by" meaning that the characters in the back row are protected when you play My Hero, but the only one that is actually protected by the front row character is the one directly behind him. The rest I guess are considered protected by the My Hero effect?

Mostly correct. All the Spider-Friend characters in the back row are protected by the effect, and if there is one directly behind the named character, then that one character is also protected by the named character.

Right, I realized that the one character behind the front row character was protected by both, but I didn't express it properly. I was trying to isolate the fact that the only character protected by the front row character is the one directly behind him.
now the important question here is could i use rocket racer and and move himself to the front row to 'protect another character on the support row so that mary jane's effect will trigger?
Mary Jane's power is not a triggered power, it is a continuous power.
With that in mind, yes, you can move rocket racer in front of another character and it would be protected and therefore have reinfircement if it was a Spider-Friends character.
