Hello all. Very new to the game. Just read through the stickied topic and didn't find a satisfactory answer to my question, so I apologize in advance if I missed it somewhere or this is just the dumbest question in the universe. Just to get it resolved in my own mind, what exactly does 'exhausted' mean. From what I gather, it really just means you can't attack (since it is not 'ready'). It can still defend (but not reinforce). Is this a correct assumption? Thanks all.
Exhausting in play terms means you turn the character card on its side.
When exhausted a character cannot use activated abilities (because Activate is a keyword that requires you to exhaust as payment for the power that comes after the -> arrow). An exhausted character also cannot attack, but they can be a defender. The exhausted character can be reinforced, but that character cannot reinforce someone else (unless its card text indicates otherwise).
An exhausted character is turned horizontal when.. exhausted lol, and yes, it cannot attack, cannot reinforce, but it can still defend. It also cannot use powers that have Activate > > Since that requires you to exhaust.
As a follow up to this. If a character says activate, show a card from your hand, do I also have to exhaust them. Basically do you have to exhaust them and pay the secondary effect or do you just pay the effect. Oh by the way, thanks for asking the question Rasitlin, I would probably have asked if you didn't.
Any time a payment power has the word 'Activate', it is shorthand for 'Exhaust this character (or location)'. In the situation you mentioned, you must both exhaust the character AND reveal a card from your hand.
Note that if the effect just had 'Reveal a card from the hand' with no 'activate', you wouldn't need to exhaust the character (or location) to use the effect (And indeed, the effect could be used if the character (or location) were exhausted).
