has anybody tried the 'highlander' format in vs yet?
i was wondering if anybody had tried out a highlander format in vs yet, you know the old highlander show thing' there can be only one' ?
the concept for those unfamiliar allows players to construct a deck where in they are only allowed 1 copy of each single card in their deck, and no more, including army cards.
this format was entertaining in magic and it helps prevent 'killier combos' as it forces a player to make different decisions.
just wondering what the feedback on this was looking like.
maybe we will try it for next month's hobby league...?
that is how they did it in that game with the spells and stuff that superman and i both hate ;)
so 40 card decks, and you cannot play more than 1 card of each name in your deck.
loyalty could be a huge detriment, but then teamups could become even more important...but then foiled and kaboom would be huge in this format...interesting deck builds could really come out of this.
i think we are going to try this for the february hobby league for sure now!
only problem with this curtis is those with a limited card pool.. i mean it would be easy for those of us who have all the resources but a few of our hobby league dudes wouldn't be able to work it out.. what do u think about making a common only deck day? make your deck from the common pool only no uncommons or rares?
best way to play common only is to play booster draft. then you get a couple of rares for spice and practise your draft skills.
what i like to do, is have one guy buy all the cards for himself at the start, and then you draft with his packs. for instance if someone with lots of cards is buying a box, then rather than crack open the cards, run a booster draft out of it and hand all the cards back to mr suitcase at the end.
that way there is no drafting for rares. just pure playing, practise and fun.
i think we could give the common only deal a try, it seems like another fun format.
and only a couple of our locals might not be able to do the highlander thing, but with a deck of only 40 cards, anybody that has bought packs is bound to draw on their resources and may have to play stuff that they normally wouldn't use, but then that is the whole plan i think, to take away the advantage of us investors over the casuals buyers.
maybe we can keep the format rotating each week?
week one would be constructed, week 2 could be sealed, then draft on 3 and fun format on the last thursday each month...?
late reply but this last monday of the month in gob we're doing draft/sealed (i forgot which).. we should come up with another format for the last week of next month
