(the subject is to catch your attention, read this and you will no what i mean)
all i hear is people complaining about problems that i guarantee wont be problems when this next set comes out.
what im talking about is all this BROKEN rubbish everyone goes on about.
ask yourself this:
how much can UDE predict the metagame of VS when they put out a set? 100% predict? 90%? 80%
id say they have maybe a 70% guess, even with all the smart people that work there and the brilliant players that playtest for them.
People complained about the lost city / avalon combo, and that brotherhood (sometimes 'mutant nation') was too broken. everyone was whine, whine, whine!!! the world nearly ended. hahaha.
then (nearly) completely out of the blue Common Enemy won the 1st PC.
every single one of the PC winning CE deck cards were out for all of the previous 10k's!!!!!!!!!! were you complaing during the 10k's that CE was broken.!!!!!!!!! hmm i think not.
And did CE dominate at all during those 10k's NOOO.
Good CE piloting players found CE at the right time in the metagame, and had the skills to take it all the way.
evidence of peoples ignorance, lack of foresight, or faith in UDE is the fact that during that 1st PC every single one of the 2nd PC winning Teen Titans cards were out too. did TT win NOOOO.
the reason is plain and simple. the metagame is always changing and decks are fashionable. plus noone actually knows whats going to be'broken' (i use this term loosely), even UDE.
there are some decks that are better than others, but no one knows which deck is the greatest.
random decks like TOGIT came out of the blue and made all those so called indestructable CE decks have to work too hard and they missed a lot of wins they would have got in the same PC, if those decks werent there. this meant that lots of CE didnt make it passed day one.
now if heaps of players started playing LeagueOAss. randomly in the next PC, even tho LoA isnt the best, it can annoy and beat many of the vast number of TT decks that will be in the next PC. hence TT wont be as strong. not cos TT sucks, but because a random part of the metagame slowed them down to much. and some of the players that might have won the PC wouldnt even get to the 2nd day.
this will give a random deck noone expects a chance to dominate 'a PC' and it could become a deck everyone says is broken all the way to the next PC (the forth PC).
what im about to say i a massive guess. but if curve sentinels (CS) keeps up its numbers and LoA increase. the LoA would slow down TT and a team say team superman could claim a lot of wins from CS (IMO team superman kills CS.) and dominate its way to day 2, and then come against CS in day 3 and breeze through.
this is the nature of a tournament with lots of rounds. then in day 3 everyone knows its 70% about match ups when the players are all so talented (this comes from the mouths of PC winners).
my main point is that no deck so far has been BROKEN. all that has happened is that strong decks have had periods in the metagame where they have been able to have good match ups with the most played decks, and very good players have been piloting them.
this next set wont be broken. all that i think UDE will do is to balance back up with the great and strong sets (marvel and dc origins). the WEB set was too weak and the MAN OF STEEL set was marginal (something might come out of it later... new gods/????, team superman???). i think the MARVEL KNIGHTS will have strong teams with cool charcters so everyone gets exited, and something will MK will that will dominate for a period.
UDE has made a great game to date and would never jepordise their game and revenue by making broken sets that spoil VS. system.
its cool when new decks come in to domiance because then everyone rallys to beat it and another giant comes in to power.
thanks for reading i hope i make everyone a bit happier knowing that VS. is and will countinue to be great, NOT BROKEN.
If you assume that Brotherhood dominated, then CE beats brotherhood, and TT beats CE, then Teen Titans wasnt the best choice at the time. Still, if your going to go and write something this huge, you should check for spelling and other bits of what makes a piece easy to read.
Man that is such a relief to know that fry is banned. I feel that now intelligent conversation can actually happen without Fry's usual well thought out responses:
Fry is by no means John Stuart (He got Crossfire killed, yesss) The 'you suck' comments werent innacurate in any of the cases I saw them.
Yeah, he wasn't exactly cherubic, I'm going to miss his commentary. He had life with his angry mispelled fury, while I see a congealed mass of "lets all be friends" that I cant stand.
For the love of God, Melvin isn't even here anymore and he is still hijacking threads. ;)
As for Fry - Every community needs someone who everyone can always count on to go against the grain or shake things up a bit. He will be missed, even if I agreed with him .01% of the time.
The subject post was one of the more tiring posts I have ever read. Seriously, spelling and punctuation makes a big difference when you are trying to put together a compelling arguement.
The majority of this has all been covered before in fair amounts of depth, so I'm not going to go nuts repeating things. My only points are that I don't believe that as many people are concerned with power levels as your thread suggests. It's just that those that do think various things are broken whine louder than everyone else, and don't seem to respond to reason. I'd rather not be tarred by that brush.
I think you are also slightly over-simplifying the metagame. The Common Enemy deck that won PC Indy was largely built using cards from MOR, and did win various events prior to the PC (including a comicbook tournament I believe), but it was the addition of DC cards like Have A Blast, and the changing state of the metagame from their introduction that actually put it on top. I don't count the one 10k where DC was legal prior to Indy as a fair reflection of the metagame, as virtually everyone was hoarding their good decks prior to the PC during that event.
Whether or not the literal cards in the 'best deck' change much from each set's introduction, the metagame always will, and the 'best deck' will need to adapt.
As to thoughts on the nature of Curve Sentinels success, I do feel that it has earned it's status as a tier 1 deck. Depending on the skill level of the field it will drift in the standings (as it is easier to play than many of the other tier 1 decks, making it very strong in a lower skilled tournament), but at present it is a definite contender.
I'd like to voice my agreement with Tim regarding the spelling and punctuation. I gave up on the thread several times before finally getting through it.
As to the subject matter, I'm not sure there is any 'perfect' deck design in existance today. Even Teen Titans has it's weaknesses and if exploited, will bring the deck crashing to the ground.
Of course, nothing i'm saying is new, but it seems that it needs to be repeated on a regular basis.
