OK, I know you're out there... good. Listen up. You did it well for yugioh!, except you made it look like a game for 5-year olds. When advertising, why not be strait foward, maybe show a little knowing insider, and rapid fire of information would bring the game to life. This isn't a game for 5-year olds (only). This is a game for people. All I've seen is one lousy ad about Spiderman, and that was corney and at the time of spiderman 2. Give a little information about the game why don't you? The game is popular among people who know it exists and them only. People even mock the game. If you saw the superbowl, then you would have seen the visa check card comercial with the marvel characters plus the underdog, and how bad the comercial made everyone except spiderman look. "read my lips: the visa..."-'spiderman.' I've never trusted your advertising skills, and to be honest, I haven't ever seen a respectable card game comercial except the one about the 10th anniversary of magic. So, you know what? I haven't been able to play GOOD tournaments at my local store because hardly ANYONE know the game EXISTS!!! I'm sure I'm not the only one with this problem, but I'm phychotic enough to mention it to people who have the ABILITY to make a DIFFERENCE. I am Orange Soda Man, OSM for short. You won't find many people who can actually say that.
Sounds like just an anomaly for your area cuz Vs is huge most everywhere. Our local shop is on two formal nights playing and most any day you go in someone might be there to play.
Well, the problem is that there are small patches of players all over the place that don't know that there's a place to play. Also, many more people who read the comics would be more than willing to want to play the game. I don't care if it's their buisness dealings as you call them, because they wouldn't even be able to make then without the money WE put into the game. I don't really care how they do it, but advertising is pretty much the only way to inform people about a game like this without people prying and searching online. Well, if this game dies because of lack of support, then we all could morn and curl up into balls and die right there on the spot, but I don't want to see such an increadible game go up in smoke because of "buisness dealings." The largest and most popular gaming shop in all of NH can't get more than 6 people, which has been most they've gotten since october. I've gone to at least 4 different gaming stores throughout newengland, and it's all the same. Maybe it is just a northeastern thing, but you'd think it'd be just as popular here as it is in Mass.

Maybe this is why I've seen many ads for VS in comic books. I think every set so far, actually, near release, has had ads in many comics for a few months at a time.
I totally agree with you OSM. I live in north eastern PA, and NOBODY in my area plays. We had a small group of people in my area that played when the game first came out, but that died because the comic shop owner did not support the game what so ever and people just got bored with no incentive. I would however still love to play in my area with or without sanctioned tourneys, but I can't even get that! Maybe once the new Batman and Fantastic Four movies come out, more people will join our VS cult. Who knows.
Hopefully. It would be nice if the game is at least mentioned in the movie ads... If nothing else a notice on the free vs cards... Assuming there will be. All we can do until the game gets more popular is to become the best we can; If a player from an isolated area wins a PCQ or something, they could make notice of it in their local area. Making school teams to take to PCQs could be another way to get more people to play. I'm sure if a school morning announcement included the words " Last weekend, Jonny-On-The-Spot, a member of this High school, took 3rd place in the (area) PCQ and is going to compete in Nationals (or something like that)..."would get people to ask about the game.
What I'm basically saying is that WE can make a difference, even w/out help from UDE (as long as they keep the game around that is).
Who the heck wants their name read out to the whole school about winning a tournament dude?
Face it, it sounds more like you're whining your butt off about your local card shop not advertising their shop enough rather than the piddly ammount of players.
I was just making ideas, I know it sounds corney. I don't know what I was thinking when I wrote it, but seriously, How do you expect people to want to play? They're not just going to say to themselves " oh, I'm bored. I wonder if there's a card game out there about superman." THAT is my main point. If the game gets publicized better, more people will want to play. The more people who want to play, the better the game can be as a whole. And if you live in a highly populated area, or an area filled with gamers, then you wouldn't know what I'm talking about. So for those of you who think I'm "whining my butt off," realize I just want what's best for the game and to have a good time too.
Cool! well, it's been either you're with me or against me type of thing, haven't seen any input on those of you who don't know what is better. Also, I'd like to note that it seems like most of the (dc) influenced people are against this idea. Don't know if that's just a coincidence or what.
On another note, do any of you think that there are too many people in your area?
I think at this point UDE is sticking with advertising to the CCG community and comic book fans. Every comic I pick up has an ad in it and a number of the CCG websites that don't have an vs content run VS ads. I think this is much more efficient advertising as oppossed to shelling out huge amounts of money to buy national ad space. The best thing we can do is continue to try and get people in our local areas interested. Try and help get the casual CCG audience into this game. That is what drives sales and profits.
You bring up an interesting and valid point. Online advertising is still better than no advertising. Maybe the game would pick-up better if toys were sold w/ cards too, w/ urls to vs sites for information and such. Score Entertainment did it for DBZ/GT and Yuyu...
