Yesterday me and 2 friends took off to the Costa Mesa PCQ but we did not intend on getting lost for a while but we made it anyways. The PCQ officially started around 2:30 or so and it was on the way, I was running an experimental deck which combined LoA with Team Supes, my friend Chris Apodaca was running Curve Sentinels and my other friend was running Longshot Spiderman, I went up against some guy 1st round who was running Fat Bat and the game took 9 turns, he kept drawing and reinforcing and he kept using Child named Valeria, I finally took him down on turn 9 when I recruited Lady Shiva(7( and KO's Fatbat and hit everything with my 8 drop Ra's and 8 Drop supe and Eradicator and such, I won my first match 38 endurance to -26, my friend Chris also won but miguel lost his first match to my beloved which was running rampad because of Tim Batow(every1 was using his build) Round 2 Came and I went up against the dreaded Titans and how can I say LOST horribly in 5 turns, he was at 43 endurance by the end, Chris won his second match taking down a My Beloved and Miguel won his match taking down a very odd Common Enemy.
3rd round came and are records were 1-1 and chris was 2-0, Chris had a mirror Match which he lost because he did not hit bastion on turn 6, I beat a Curve that round and miguel beat a My Beloved by a hair, he was so lucky because he was able to exhaust shiva before the atk step and his 8 drop spidey was at 24-24 with flight and range and poor cassandra Cain in the back with no one to guard her.
round 4 came by and miguel said the worst thing, he said, watch its me and you right now and sure enough he was right, we both went and I lost to his spidey deck, I did not draw one tower of babel or 1 montain stronghold or a demons head, I was really mad, he said good game but i was waaay to mad to shake his hand or anything so i just signed the slip, got my cards and started walking around, Chris went up again st 1 of the 5 undefeated people and he won, he beat a X-Stall.
round 6 came along and it did not fair so well because I lost to a curve sents and so did miguel, Chris lost a B&B and was not sure is he wanted tp play anymore
I decided not to even play anymore and just decided to quit(still ended up 30th though) miguel played also and he ended the day 5-3, but the real story is our friend Chris because the irony of it was that he did nto even want to go and b4 round 7 started he wanted to leave and I told him "NO, u have a good shot at top 8" he kept playing anf when they put the postings up he was 11th, he won his next 2 games and ended up 6-2, we were waiting for the standings and he ended up 7th, he had made top 8, I was very proud of him and gave him mad props.
Top 8 started and he went up against a TNB!, I was like "crap, chris's deck is not ready for the rush" and so they played on, 1st game started and the guy was off to a great start, he hit thorn with a TNB and hit for 5 direct, chris missed Boliver, bu turn 4 chris was at 21 and the other guy was at like 40something, but it all tiurned around turn 5 and the guy missed magneto and had to pop Genosha in order to keep 2 TNB's alive and in effect. Turn 6 came along and Chris hit Bastion and it was game from there, he hit big with Bastion,Nimrod, and 2 Sentinel Mark V's, Chris took the next match with ease considering the guy had the worst draws I had even seen,
Next match Chris went up against a Teen Titans and the kid he was playing took like 2 minutes just to make a freeking move, I swear it took this kid like 2 minutes to picka card with Argus, Chris was getting irritated and just beat the living snot out of this kid the 1st game, 2nd game rolled around and it took like a good 50 minutes, Chris finally pulled off the 2-0 win when he hit Bastion on turn 6 and the kid brought out Harper and boosted Hawk, the kid tried to use Harpers effect but chris just overloaded it, the kid passed and chris ws only able to off 10 endurance off theguy, next turn he dropped Magneto and it was game, the kid had nothing left and Chris won his 2nd top 8 match
Finals: Chris against Steven, Mirror Match, the first game took forever with everything going about even until they both hit trun 6, now this turn 6 was not an ordinary turn 6, Chris declared an atk to bastion with nimrod and here is how it went, the pumps went back and forth, beatdown, bastion, bastion and it went on like this for about 15 minutes because chris was not sure if he wanted to use his other beatdown so he could stun Bastion, after like a 20 minute atk on 1 character only steven finally said"fine, i'll give you this one" and every1 around just started lauging their ass off and everybody was like ok, Ludin out of nowhere "finally, its over, oh no wait, here comes atk #2" laugh riot once again. Steven lost 2 characters that turn when chris hit his mark v with bastion and then the battle phase stopped. The next turn steven dropped Magneto and so did Chris, steven then popped 3 Genoshas drawing 12 cards and giving him huge hand advantage and of course with a 18 card hand steven, they entered into their atk step and steven declared Magneto to Mark V and chris said ok, Steven then dropped a nasty surprise on mark V and 2 characters with Bastion to pwer it up and overload it which lead magneto to ready(mark V was boosted), Steven then hit Magneto into Bastion and hit for 10 and then he hit Bastion into Nimrod for game.
Steven 1, Chris 0
Game 2:
The both started out the same way as usual except chris hit boliver and steven did not, Chris did not his Mark III and steven did, turn 3 was stevens as he set his resource and dropped his 3 drop and so did Chris, they both stunned and went on to turn 4 which they both dropped sentinel Mark V, 3 characters were stunned that turn and chris had the advantage 2 characters to 1, Chris boosted Mark V on inish 5 and steven landed with Nimrod, not much happeded as they both took about the same endurance loss that turn, Turn six came Bastion and every1 was like "oh great, another 20 minute bastion atk", Steven started things off by ramming his Nimrod into Mark V(boosted) and using a beatdown, chris the used a Cover Fire and Steven responded by dropping 3 characters and chris ended up taking 4, all that for 4 endurance. Bastion went into Bastion and steven dropped 1 character to live and so did chris, steven passed on to Chris who rammed his bastion into stevens bastion because they had not stunned during stevens atk, chris dropped 1 character and lived as Steven took 7,Turn 7 came and the most crucial turn for any curve, it was stevens initiative, he placed his resource and announced "I will gain my 7 resource points" and then popped a Genosha and screamed out "Yes" and hit the table and dropped Magneto as he top decked it which lead to him popping off another Genosha and drawing 4 more cards, chris then recruited a Magneto of his own but did not have a genosha and only a recon face down, steven started off by ramming bastion into bastion and won that battel by boosting bastion 6 times after chris cover fired, chris took 6 and steven rammed Magneto into Nimrod for Game
Finals: Steven 2, Chris 0
Steven is the PCQ champion with a prize of 250$, 24 packs of Marvel Knights, an EA 4 Drop Doom(looks very pretty) and a shirt and a game mat and 10 pc points.
Chris ended getting 24 packs of MK, 5 PC points, EA Dr. Doom and a shirt.
All in all it was a great day for Chris and I have learned that I am gonna he to be more prepared for the 10k at Wizard World coming up in march, and by the way, thanks for reading.
I will be more ready for Wizard World, I will be most likely taking Teen Titans or Curve Sentinels, I could have played either yesterday but I decided to try out my experiment deck.

Yup, that TNB guy was me. The deck took a crap on me after I go 7-1 in swiss, but that's what happens when you play TNB, right? Oh yeah, getting double-Overloaded each game makes it tougher to win... but the speed of TNB can make up for that at times, just not against Bastion.
Hey, Mr. Spears: TNB can still win even if you don't draw TNB...you just need 3 Suprise Attacks or 2 Heat Visions, lol.
i wouldve gone but my ride ditched me, so im pissed. it was cool though, two of my friends made top 8, including volcoms bro who got top 4, beating billy twice (haha) and earning the the 2 cresits he needed to be qualified
I am becoming more and more impressed with how strong the Sentinel curve deck has become. I witnessed many questionable plays. Early plays I believed to be wasteful and would surely cost my opponent in the late game, but the Sentinel deck seemed to provide endless solutions. Combinations of tag teams and Cover fires would make my Flying kick/Savage Beat-downs combinations miss. Later rounds I would just try to team attack, but even then I would miss half the time.
Late rounds are a nightmare. Bastion/Magneto combo plus how ever many Genosha he/she might have at the time, turns that players hand, deck, and KO pile into a possible pump. The deck is a beast and I could not think of a way to break it once the Sentinel player hit his/her curve. Kudos to whoever perfected the design of that deck.
yeah, it was really funny and the finals did take forever and edwin was like listening to like some sort of asian pop and it was super loud on his dj headphones and every1 just kept like staring and laughing, it was priceless, all in all it was a good day, and I talked to Chris the other day and he said that he got really lucky against the TNB guy, but hey, SH*T happens.
