My guess is that the number will be bumped up quite significantly if they do this again. At the time of invites for LA, the top player had a rating of about 2800. The top player now has a rating over over 3000, so I'd expected the minimum rating for an invite to be at least 2700.
I'm guessing they might keep the mark at 2600 for pc amsterdam, just cause the europeans have had far less chances to crank up their ratings. however for pc NY it will likely go up some. 2600 is pretty darn easy to achieve.
- Q: Why is the rating threshold so low?
A: The ratings threshold was pushed so low because of the large overlap with the players with 10 or more PC Credits. Roughly 100 players received an invitation via rating that were not already qualified via PC Credits.
Going forward, we expect the ratings threshold for PC invitations to increase signficantly, as PC Credits will more accurately reflect solid performance in professional events.
Of course, they could do another set of "regional" invites, like they did for CA Yugi players for PCLA.
Well currently on the PCamsterdam website it says 2600... *shrug* I figured it would be raised as well. Considering that the tournament is in Europe, they may have kept it at 2600 because there has not been as many tournaments in tournaments.
You know, I didn't even read the full text of the first post to catch that.
Wow, that's like 200+ US players getting a free invite. I know because I'm somewhere in the high 200s last I checked and my rating is just over the 2600 mark.
Extended GCPD officer for side events!
I think you also have to realize that less players compete in this event since its overseas. (This is from a US player standpoint)
If you look at the standings, if the line is 2700, there are maybe 20 people that are getting invited that didn't have the points to go. I think they want the ratings invites to mean something. If they did 'the first 50 that weren't already invited' I think it would be somewhat more appropriate.

That's probably it. They're giving all the US people invites to a foriegn nation, so people will have to book flights, hotels, etc. to get there. When the PC comes back to American soil, they'll bring the ratings back up to 2800+.

I completely agree. I think the point of the invites is to give people who haven't qualified a chance to play in the PC. Having the rating cut off at 2700 or higher would eliminate most of those people. The only reason to raise the limit from 2600 is if the PC has to many people coming. If UDE is getting the numbers they want at a PC, it should stay the same. In the future, I could imagine the rating limit being raised to 2650, but that is about it.
There's more reasons to raise the invite than "too many people at the PC". I mean honestly, a rating of 2600 is not difficult to attain. It is basically 1 good performance at a $10k and you're there. By increasing it to say... 2700, it would be more difficult to attain, something for people to strive for. It would also encourage people to try to qualify through other means (PCQs and the like). I can't see them keeping it at 2600 after PC Amsterdam (though I think keeping it there for PC Amsterdam is a very good idea).
Great idea to keep it at 2600 for Amsterdam given the tournament scene being "younger" overseas than here in the states.
Also want to echo the idea that the "ratings invites" should be changed a bit to something mentioned earlier in the thread. That being, the Top 25 or 50 people(based on rating) who don't have at least 10 PCC's. Either do 25 limited/constructed or 50 from each list.
Well you also have to understand that they want as many people as possible to come to these events. If they did like top 100 from sealed and constructed that were not invited...that would probably be what they would do.
