Alright, now, I could use a rules citation if possible to support whatever the ruling here is.
I play 8-cost Ra's, my opponent has 7-cost Spidey on the board and tries to tap my 8-cost Ra's in response. I am baffled at how this can work, since 8-cost Ra's will either be a character card on the chain or a character in play with a continuous effect preventing Spidy from using his payment power, but the question was raised.
So, can Spidey target Ra's, or will Ra's hit the board unaffected?
remember, than when you recruit a character, what you are actually doing is saying
'I intend to spend x resource points to recruit character x,' and then pass to the opponent. If he activates Spidey then, then it has no legal target, as ra's has not yet been recruited
so your opponent cannot actually target Ra's yet, because he hasn't been recruited, ergo he passes
the chain then resolves, and Ra's comes into play. The moment he hits the field, his ability comes into effect and Spidy 7 drop can't activate anymore.
However, remember Spidey 7 drop can activate in response to the recruitment to exhaust other characters already on the board, just not the one who hasn't been recruited eyt.
Dr. Doom can abuse the chain because his "Comes into play" ability triggers as soon as he hits the board (thus in response to his own power, he can MP someone, then the chain resolves and he can flip down a resource. This only works because Doom's text doesn't use the word "Target", so any resource that's face-up is legal once the power resolves).
Spider-man cannot legally target Ra's until he enters the "in-play" area. However, at that point, Ra's static "No payment Powers" ability is already in effect. It is thus my opinion that Spidey, even though he may REALLY want to, cannot target Ra's 8 drop with his exhausting ability.
The answer is not. The moment Ra's can be a legal target for Spidey effect he has alredy lost it's power due to Ra's. It would be the same as trying to stun Ra's with with Roy Harper..
TO answer the question we go to the chain. to recruit a charter teh chain must be empty. player A anouses he is recuiting 8 drop Ra. then the player A passes. If Player B passses tehn RA comes into play and spydy can't use payments. If he does not pass he may use spidy targeting whom ever he likes Except 8drop Ra since he is still a charter card on the chain waiting to come into play.
