I'm mostly talking about legacy cards. It seems as though the DC sets are more "in-tune" to their legacy teams.
Marvel typically gets random good cards to help re-inforce their teams other than help that specifically address team problems. ALso, it seems that the DC legacy cards are enough of a boost to make some consider some once maligned teams to have a possibility of attaining such vaunted status as "Tier 1". Spiderfriends got.... Webshooters and the Slingers.... Scarlet's ok, but he reinforces a deck archetype that no one wants to bother with. Syndicate got.... Scorpia? She's not bad, but the other cards were lacking, and none really helped their problems, forcing them to team up to become effective. X-Men found out they could recover a WHOLE lot more, but with little else to back them up, they just got stunned a whole lot more to compensate. Marvel gets good cards, but nothing to help team weaknesses, so it seems (remember, this is opinion).
Now for DC. GK, what did they get? A powerful 7 drop that still lets what may be the strongest Supes ever come into play. AI got Two Face to help with their 7 drop deficiencies, as well as cards like Bat's Belfry to help with prison break and 4-drop Joker, as well as Hush, who reinforces their main deck staple theme. Haunting whispers say that AI might be due for some time in the limelight. Next up, Titans. Best DC team (as far as tournament stats are concerned), and they STILL get good stuff. Speedy among other thigns. I'm a fan of Curve Titans, so Troia was a great addition for my deck. LoA.... WOW They got a location search card (which in itself is amazing), a new 7-drop (again replacing their 'too specific to use effectively all the time' Lady Shiva) and a new 6-drop (Master Swordsman? At least now I don't have to play Power Man to compensate), as well as a new 4-drop that plays off of their loaction love, and a 2-drop and new location that feeds off of their non-KOing effects. RS got an Ongoing Plot-twist that searches for.... Ongoing Plot Twists, which REALLY helps their overall game plan. NG finally got a one drop, and a couple of cards to reinforce their Forever People theme. DS got more direct damaging effects and disruption. TS, well, TS got some good cards, Kent Farms and STAR labs helping out the "little guys" theme.
It seems to me like DC gets the cards that are more needed to make its legacy teams more viable, while Marvel gets less thought out cards, that, while good, don't reinforce the teams much better. And would it kill UDE to just make Jubilee and get it over with? I think that's one card that we'd like to have out of the way sooner rather than later (of course, if UDE makes her the card to break the X-Men team, that would be great!) Am I just crazy, or is DC getting designed better?
That makes sense, and I've thought about it, too, but the Marvel decks that need the most help are more or less ignored. Syndicate and Spideyfriends are hardly used (though I personally love Spiderfriends and all I want for them is some kind of offensive plot twist, like a sticky situation that works while attacking, or something like that). The DC add-ons give older teams all they need to have a chance at making it big, whereas the older Marvel teams are still lacking. But like you said, they may be a little worried about giving Marvel too much power compared to DC. Maybe when DC hits the Meta like a wrecking ball, we'll see some much needed help for the older "less than Tier 1" teams.
If you're talking GA, then yeah SS and SF's are not widely used. But in MMA SS are one of the top teams. I really don't see much support coming from the Avengers set for Spidey or SS, so they can make a GA appearance or just more often.
This is really the first good DC set out there. Teen Titans was good but that's about it. Rigged Elections combines Marvel. Gotham Knights may be better now and even better when the starters come out. We'll have to see.
I agree, Even the ever broken teen titans got Jericho. Why did even thier broken team get a card to make it more broken? Seems like dc wants all thier teams to be good. And marvel made a selected few too powerful, but ignored others all together.
Originally posted by kairos10 I tend to agree with you, but then I look at the meta...
Common Enemy, Titans, Curve Sentinels, Fantastic Fun, and the always fun decks like Rigged Elections and Brotherhood of Mephisto.
Counting Rigged as both Marvel and DC (the key cards are Cosmic Radiation and Rigged Elections), then Marvel decks greatly outnumber DC decks.
So perhaps designers are nervous about the power Marvel decks have had so far.
--Just a thought but with three releases out I would expect Marvel to have more decks.
Wait until GLC becomes legal and has been out for say a month then revist the meta and see what the top decks are. And I am not sure Rigged elections or Common Enemy should be up there right now. Common Enemy maybe but not rigged.
I would put the meta as CS, Titans, EMS, Fantastic fun
so 2 Marvel, 1 DC and One Mixed
With Brotherhood of Mephisto, Common Enemy and a few others as Tier 2.
Straight GK, GL will both be strong decks once GLC is legal.
Well, DC sometimes does get better cards(fizzle, alfred, garth,TTGO! and some other very good mentionables) they always have good stuff and great cards to support a team.

I stretched the meta back to the first Pro Circuit, so Common Enemy has to be included.
We can't speculate yet on GLC or the changes it will bring. At least, not accurately. I imagine GL will be a good team (at least against Curve Sentinels), but I'm not sure at all about the other ones. At the very least, you cannot compare anything in GLC to the rest of the meta, because GLC is not part of the meta yet. So Marvel still has the edge.
Rigged and Brotherhood of Mephisto performed well enough to be included, but you can cut out Rigged all together because it combines the two companies.
And I didn't include The New Brotherhood or Big Brotherhood, two more Marvel decks.
I don't see how straight Gotham will be any stronger because of DC. Azrael is alright though.

this is a huge pet peeve of mine.
DC and marvel have no say on any aspect of design and development. UDE makes both companies, they test both companies against each other, they make some mistakes here and there, but those mistakes were from nerfing some teams, they were using caution, cuz let's face it, have a low powered team is far less damaging than having a highly broken team. and it is far easier to raise a certain teams power level than it is for lowering it.
so while it is fine to comment on what company has better sets, please don't think marvel or Dc has anything to do with designing cards or shaping the enviroment.
I don't have very high hopes for the JLA set, even though ude has done a very good job designing the game so far (god knows we could have had another spellfire on our hands). I believe It will be a challenge putting so many legendary and powerful characters into one set, ans If they don't make them as powerful as their comic book version many people will say that the design tem did a bad job.The way I see it it is a lose lose situation on one hand you have a set with balanced or god forbid crap characters to balance out the few good ones, or a set with sorry to say it because it been said to death but, BROKEN characters that everyone will complain about as well.
for every superman on the team, they have a blue beetle or the question. sure the more powerful guys get the most attention, but it will certainly be easy to use a character for the appropiate drop, without lowering the powr-level of the big name people.
No it's not that, what I worried about is the fact that the set will have to have these characters you know Supes, Flash,GL,Wonder Women,Green Arrow especially Green Arrow, etc. I'm worried if the don't make these guys powerful then people will say that the design staff did a bad job,and i'f they make them to powerful people will complain they are to good.It just won't be that easy to balance is all I'm saying.
By the way I think Blue Beetle is one of the best characters in the JLA, next to the later Static Shock.
