- Is the VS System as big as you thought it would be at this point in time?
- I have had people tell me that they expect VS System to get as big as Magic: The Gathering.
- Can we expect that to happen?
- Also how big is VS where you live?
- Is it as popular as you thought it would be?
- How long do you expect before the huge burst in new players?
Sorry if these questions aggrevate anybody, just some questions I was wondering about.
#2. maybe given time and some marketing it could... they really need some advertisments on TV
#3. non-existent there are only 5 players where i live <wichita, ks> me and my son are 2 of them.
#4. i thought it would be much more popular that it has become
#5. any burst would be good... tho i doubt it will come any time soon. i am posting flyers trying to get people to come to my local shop and learn the game and hopefully play it.
VS has grown inredibly and its exactly what I expected to be. In tmie, I do think it will overcome Magic, because VS really comes from a solid background with plenty of source material to draw people in. VS is huge here. It has the largest tournaments- 4 times a week! As far as new players, well every week our store seems to get new people. If you haven't noticed, VSrealms is picking up members all the time, especially lately.
I think the reason for the new influx of players is the newbies want to be prepared to play Avengers/JLA, add in the GL fans that have been waiting for the latest set and BAM new players/members abound!
1. No. You can only buy cards at hobby/comic/etc. stores. Meanwhile Target, Wal-Mart, TRU, etc. sell tons of Yugioh and Pokemon cards and UD misses out on tons of retail sales. Also, Yu Yu Hakusho, a dead game, has it's own section on Ebay but VS doesn't? That says volumes.
2. Possibly, but a lot of work has to be done to get Yugi players and comic book readers into the game, now, before it's too late.
3. (St. Louis) There are two stores in the area that run tourmaments and have about 5-15 players at them. They are the only two registered hobby leagues in MO. The problem is both of these places (one of which I started) have their HL's on Sunday and they can't change them.
4. It is nowhere as big as I thought it would be, especially with the prize support. Parents and other players have no clue what VS has in terms of prizes which are far above what Yugi offers. A lot of the Yugi players I know always wonder why I'm playing a VS PCQ instead of a Yugi regional feeling the PCQ is an event beneath the Yugi regional. I then have to correct them and advise on how much money is given away that day and at $10k's and the Pro Circuit. I think the ATM cards will help greatly in this because now the Yugi players can see $250 right in front of them and decide that VS may be worth looking into (Yugi regionals and VS PCQ's are run at the same time in my area.)
5. If UD gets off their booty and starts advertising the game, getting it into mass retail stores, and starts converting Yugi players into VS players then probably this summer. If they stay the way their going now, I fear the game will never grow any bigger and will start to fall.
1. Don't know. Since this is my first CCG, I didn't know what to expect.
2. It would be nice to see it grow to MTG size and popularity. I too am sick of seeing hundreds of packs at Walmart / Target of MTG....and you might get lucky if they have 10 packs of VS (if any).
3. I don't think it will happen. Hope it does though.
4. Tough to come by. The only store in my city of 27K people stopped selling it just as I started collecting. Stating, the only guy who was keeping people interested left town. So, now, noone is playing. Otherwise...the shop I recently started to rely on...is slowing down carrying packs and doesn't sell good singles. Only junk commons. They are thankfully going to carry GL.
5. If I was a brand new player....which I almost still am (if it wasn't for this site and some help from total strangers), I would not want to get involved. Too many confusing rules to learn for any new CCGer. The UDE website sucks totally. You can't learn anything complex in the sample game. Most locals that I have talked to in person argue about certain rules and plays, because the truth is...none of them really know. Hard to learn from someone who just thinks they know.

It's strictly a question of marketing. There's no difference between "collectible card game" and "trading card game" and "customizable card game" (what Decipher calls its products), and all the rest. But "trading card game" undoubtedly sounds less mercantile than "collectible card game", which implies spending a lot more money - and since the anime CCGs are more kid-based, they want the parents shelling out for the cards to get images of baseball cards stuck in between spokes of bicycles and the like, not "this card goes for eighty bucks on eBay."
1) I thought it would be huge because I thought like more then two companies would get in on it. I envisioned like Star Wars, other comic companies, and probably some anime characters getting in after 5 sets or so.
2/3) I hope Vs. does as well as MTG. Dunno if it actually will though.
4) Considering where I live (Chapel Hill, NC) I'm surprised there are quite a few players. Our store gets about 8-10 a week, but there are at least a total of 20 people who have showed up at one time or another.
5) I thought more of the YGO players would've liked this game, but I guess not.
6) After the next two sets there should be LOTS of new players.
1)-It is an amzing game, yet still a young game. Give it some time.
-Yes it will. Unless UDE screws it up.
-Some more ads in comic books and on TV during comic based television shows.
-I live in a small town. Yet we still get about 15 people to play Vs twice weekly. About 4 people come to play Magic, and maybe 20 come to play YGO...so it is pretty big.
- In my area it is really popular. I think it has the potential to become even more poplar around the world.
- You mean them noobs...let them keep playing with the 1000 attack guys...j/k. About the time of the Avengers/JLA releases, or maybe the new starters.
yea VS is a great game, but due to poor advertising its just not taking off like it should. We had about 10 players but now most them quit cuz theres no league around here and theres just not enough support. UDE needs to get off its ass and support this game. its off to a great start but they need more!
- Is the VS System as big as you thought it would be at this point in time?
Yes in fact it's overcoming a lot of games. L5R is in a rut, and as I hear from my friends, so is Magic with its lame imitation of L5R (LOL as if)
- I have had people tell me that they expect VS System to get as big as Magic: The Gathering.
- Can we expect that to happen?
As a matter of fact I think it's highly possible. The game's engine is excellent, and no rules headaches save a few cards.
- Also how big is VS where you live?
It's one of the top games right now.
- Is it as popular as you thought it would be?
Yes it is.
- How long do you expect before the huge burst in new players?
Avengers / JLA should bring in a ton of old / young players. Admit it, wouldn't you want to play a team consisting of heroes you've read about since you were a kid? As opposed to some random samurai / monk / shugenja scrub?
