From 77 to 20, One More Single Elimination Round Till Swiss!
As expected post-overload a lot of rush decks came out of the gates in round 2. All the matches were closely fought affairs with deck lists highly reflective of what I expected to see post-July 1st. Titans, TNB, GLEE Rush… Does anyone have the power to stop these decks dead in their tracks? Or are these archetypes going to push forward without challenge till the swiss rounds? Read on to see the results from round 2 and the pairings for round 3...
Firstly, I would like to say thank you for all the participants in round 2, not only did we get most of the matches out of the way before the weekend, but come Saturday evening only 2 matches had yet to be played. Thank you all for helping me make this tournament run as smoothly as we can.
Secondly, just as a reminder, as soon as you get the pairings, PLEASE contact your opponent to make some arrangements to get the match played. Also, be sure you read over the match rules and the OCTGN play guide as any questions you may have are probably already answered there. Considering we are in to round 3 right now, I assume everyone has had the opportunity to do this by this point (especially when realizing that was a pretense to signing up ;)).
On to Round 2’s Results and Round 3’s Match Information…
This is the LAST single elimination round before we move on to swiss, so this is still do or die for our online tournament participants. As before we are still playing 3 game matches, and all previous notes made for the current errata/ban still stands, so be sure both you and your opponent are comfortable with the rules before getting your game under way.
All matches need to be played by MONDAY, JULY 4th at 11:59 PM CST. So, since this is a holiday weekend, it would be in your best interest in order to get your match out of the way as soon as possible. This is for a common courtesy to both yourself and your opponent.
Next, if you are interested in the Feature Match for Round 1 (Since I seem to be one round behind…) you can find it HERE. This match is between Profparm and JoFo and featured a Modern Age match up in a Golden Age tournament. Game 1 and 2 of this match is currently up, and Game 3 will be up shortly.
For Round 2’s Feature Match, you can expect it any day now as I work on writing up the report of the match.
Also, for those interested in the exploits of Team Online and Team NEJ (as well as the other teams, look back shortly for an update).
For those looking for the Team Updates, right now we had four teams starting in Round 2 (Team Gabe, Team NEJ, Team Online, and Team Recon (with honorary cheerleader Stu) (or at least until I am told otherwise)…
The breakdowns of the teams were as follows:
Team Dream Team
scarletspider
Team Gabe
Profparm
Team NEJ
Zemel96
Raigekz
Team Online
spideysean102
tharyel
peterparker1897
Arctic Breaker
SpideyFriends
bjof45
Rjthegreat119
Team Recon
ReconVS (with cheerleaders)
After the 2nd Round, 1 team (Team Gabe) was knocked out after a loss to Team Online’s tharyel. The only other loss suffered by any team players was peterparker1897 who lost to scarletspider. The results standings at this point then look like this:
Team Dream Team (100% Win Ratio)
scarletspider - 2-0
Team Gabe - Out of Tournament 1-1 (50% Win Ratio)
Profparm 1-1
Team NEJ 4-0 (100% Win Ratio)
Zemel96 - 2-0
Raigekz - 2-0
Team Recon 2-0 (100% Win Ratio)
ReconVS (with cheerleaders) 2-0
Games of Note for those Keeping Track of the Teams in the Tournament: bjof45 vs. Rjthegreat119 -- Team Online forced against each other… Both these players know each others decks, its all a matter of who’s going to want it more… Arctic Breaker vs. SpideyFriends -- Another Team Online match where teammates are forced against each other in single elimination.
Stay tuned for more updates…
(Edited to Reflect the Presence of Scarletspider... Sorry Dream Team)

It was bound to happen. Since you do have like 30 people in the tournament. But it doesn't matter since yall will still lose by draw or by NEJ crushing you. So there's no way around it:p
Yeah... our good friend scarletspider couldn't make it to PCNY to cruise with Number One Dream like the rest of the team. So he decided to strut his stuff in the online tournament.
Look out, playas! The Dream Team still has an undefeated combatant in the field, and he's out for blood! ;)
