I only recently started playing with avenger cards.
I noticed some characters have a name seperated by a diamond like beetle/mach 1. This means that I could have beetle mach 1 and beetle mach 3 in play at the same time since they don't have the same name?
2.If you are attacked, can you use evasion in response to being stunned, or can you only use evasion before being stunned, loose the character cost, and cause the opposing character to ready and attack again? (in which case I'll hurry up and remove evasion characters from my decks)
last one, invincibility means yo udon't loose character costs when stunned right?
I would've checked with UDE but their website is a mess.
P.S. what were they smoking when they made legendary battles common?
Originally posted by phaseshifter I thought uniqueness only checked for a character with the same name.
The word before the <> IS the Name. The word after is one's Identity. The ID isn't checked (so far) by the game, it's there to define -which- particular hero Name is. Started in DC last year. That way you can figure out which Robin the Robin is, but you still only get one Robin <> out. But as many <> Robins as you want, if the Name is different.
You're right. Partially. It checks for the name, but not the stuff after the <>. To the over-arching game rules, Beetle <> Mach 1 is the same character as Beetle <> Mach 3 and even the masters of evil and sinister syndicate versions. Only the part of the name BEFORE the <> is counted.
Invulnerable characters to not cause their own cost in stun damage to their controller when they are stunned. You only take breakthrough.
Ok, but could I use beetle armorsmith to power up mach 1?
Though it would have made more sense to put the characters actual name first, then the hero/villain name like in the case of Hank Pym.
It gets confusing because some characters have:
1.Name/alias
2.Alias, with name underline
3.alias/alias, with name underline
4. Name,alias with title underline,Ex: Helmut zemo<>Citizen V
Warmonger.

Yep, any card named beetle could be used to power-up any character named beetle.
The first name is the "normal" name because it makes sense that that person can only exist once in any given reality. Ant Man could be any one of 4 or 5 different people, but Hank Pym, whether in his Giant Man or Ant Man persona is unique.
Versions only (for the most part) matter for the "4 of" rule.
Anything AFTER the <> is 100%, completely meaningless. That may change, pay attention to rules updates as new sets come out.
Beetle is a very special case, because they made a version of him on the Syndicate too.
Normally, you'll see "REAL NAME <> ALIAS" Sometimes (in the case of Azbats), you'll see "ALIAS <> DIF. ALIAS"
The <> isn't necessary for all characters, so it's only there for those who need it. And for those who don't, you name the character "Spider-Man" because that's a cooler name for a card. And since you don't name him "Peter Parker" you are free to use that as a version.
Originally posted by frzamonkey if ude could go back in time, they would probably change the origins cards to fit the templates of the newer sets. (to name<>alias)
like:
Peter Parker<>Spider-Man
Bruce Wayne<>Batman
Danny Ketch<>Ghost Rider
etc...
No, they wouldn't.
They've said that Bruce Wayne is SO COMPLETELY tied into his role as Batman (to the point that he says Wayne is his mask), they wouldn't bother to make it his game name.
Ghost Rider you have a point, but they decided that since there's only 1 Ghost Rider at a time, he counted as unique.
I would have thought that the squadron supreme characters would have not been unique though since they DID have alternate version of themselves in the marvel universe.
I hope they do it for excalibur. (though the alternate dimension storyline WAS a bit annoying)
