Hey guys. I'm writing this because a little while ago, something that was very dear to me died, and through my crazy voodoo magic, I'm going to attempt to raise it from the dead. This something is, of course, Stu's Barn Door Challenge.
When I had just learned about this game and started coming to this website, the Barn Door Challenge immediately drew me in. Here was something amazingly cool. I mean, sure, getting your opponent to 0 ENd is nice if you actually care about winning games, but making an infinitely large Beast Boy, now that was cool. The Barn Door Challenge is a combo player's dream. It's like putting a small child into a room filled with all the toys in the world and saying, "GO! PLAY!" You can do anything that you want, and not worry about if it gives you a better win percentage against CS, but simply worry about how cool it is. Winning the Barn Door Challenge was a dream for me. I would pour over the cardlists, searching for that perfect combo. In fact, I owe my vast knowledge of all the cards in large part to the Barn Door Challenge. I almost won once, but it turned out that my solution was only one of many infinite solutions, so I was not destined to win that day. However, designing a combo to steal an infinitely large army of Assassin Initiates from my opponent is still one of my fondest achievements.
So, with all that said, you can imagine how sad I was when I stopped seeing the BDC pop up on the front page with all it's shiny purple glory. What would I do with all my Longshot tricks and infinite combos? Well, now, I would like to reintrodue the Barn Door Challenge to realms. If the illustrious Mr. Fike doesn't mind me taking over his amazing brainchild, then I will do this regularly. So, I'm calling every player who's ever looked at JJJ and thought "You know, there's got to be some way I can make him useful." I'm calling anyone who's ever used Reign of Terra in a competitive deck. I'm calling all men who firmly believe that bringing out a 7 cost TELBET on turn 3 is way cooler than watching the Super Bowl. I'm calling for all women who want to name their first child Longshot and their second child Alfred. Anyone and everyone who loves this game is welcome here. Put on your thinking caps realmers, and blow us away with your inventiveness.
Ok, without further ado, I bring you the opening puzzle of the reborn Barn Door Challenge.
Recently, one of my favorite decks has been my NG/AV deck, which concentrates on abusing Soldiers of New Genesis and Quicksilver. It never ceases to astound me just how much damage the deck can do with team attacks. It regularly wins games on turn 4 against opponents who hit a full curve. Really amazing stuff. So, my challenge to you all is this.
How much damage can you do by turn four in ONE team attack on an opponent's character?
Now, let's go over this in a little more detail, and make sure everyone knows the rules.
1) You can manipulate everything in this scenario, your draws, your opponent's draws, your opponent's plays, everything. You just can't cheat.
2) You are trying to do as much damage as possible in ONE team attack, not on all team attacks through turn four. ONE team attack.
3) The team attack in question must be against a character on your opponent's board. You can't just team directly, it's got to be into a character.
4) You get to play through turn 4.
5) You absolutely must have as much fun as possible.
6) Coolness counts. If you and another person get the same outcome, but he does it in a cooler way, you lose. This also applies to how you make your opponent play. In a tie, a more realistic opponent will win over an opponent who just helps you. However, we're not looking for realism here, we're looking for craziness, so don't let your opponent restrict you.
7) No using Shaligo. Some BDCs will have additional restrictions, but this one is going to be default in all of them, unless someone can give me a good reason why it shouldn't be. Using Shaligo as a reset button for all our PTs isn't what this is about, since that makes it too easy to do crazy things. I don't think that would effect this particular challenge, but we'll just play on the safe side.
The following is stuff quoted from my post (#13) which answers some important Qs
Quote
The game is one on one. Things get really crazy when you pur an infinite amount of people in, so I'm going to stay away from that.
-I had originally meant for the challenge to be simply damage that came as a direct result of a team attack stun. However, I failed to specify this, and I've already gotten replies that are based on damage done within the attack. So, since I'm interested in seeing how high people go with my original intent, but I don't want to discount the work people have already done, I will offer two seperate winners. One will be the person who can do the most damage total during a team attack, and the other winner will be the person who can do the most damage as a direct result of a team attack stun.
-no, damage to the attackers doesn't count in your damage total. You're trying to see how much damage you can deal to the opponent.
Now, I'm going to go ahead and address this, since I've gotten a few answers that misinterpreted my challenge. The goal is to see how much DAMAGE you can do, not how high an ATTACK you can get. Regardless of how high your attack value is, you deal the same damage in the end, since there is no breakthrough.
Feel free to ask me if you have any questions about this. Post it on here, or if you think it gives away your solution, PM me. Everyone must PM me their response.
The contest lasts till Monday the 17th of October.
There is no prize, just pride in yourself and the admiration of your fellow players. If that's not enough for you, then why are you playing this game?
good call, I forgot how incredibly abuseable shaligo was in the last BDC. I don't like restricting too much since this is supposed to be wide open and, quite frankly, supposed to be completely crazy, but Shaligo just kills the inventiveness of it all by giving an easy reset button. I'll edit that in.
I meant something like, both you and your opponent having shaligo and meltdown. Both of you gain infinite life, then use something like Punisher's Armory and send Dagger+Shaligo in for 100000 Ker-Jillion on turn 2.
yeah, so now I feel like a total and complete moron. The challenge was supposed to be how much you can do while team attacking a character, but since I'm a moron, I didn't specify that.
Ok, so I'm going to have to edit that. My apologies to anyone who has already started working out a solution to this. I feel stupid now. I suppose I'll work out these kinks in time.
Don't feel stupid, that happened EVERY SINGLE TIME that I did a Barn Door Challenge. It is just the nature of the game. We all really appreciate your efforts here, it will work out good in the end... it always does.
Okay, back to the festivities...
Most damage by one team attack on a character by turn four. That can't go infinite, can it?
That's my hope, but you never know do you? There are some really brilliant minds floating around this place, and if there is an infinite solution, I'm sure they'll find it.
Now, my hope is that I can keep this thread alive so that people can see it, but I need some help with that. I'm not as adept at responding to myself as Stu is, so I need people to step up and post. Tell me what you think about this. Ask a question about the challenge. Give me a suggestion on things to change for the next one. Anything.
I know, this doesn't have the shiny banner and front page status that it had before, but maybe if we work at it this can stick around for a bit.
I got a good way. But is this a one on one game? or a large vast game of infinate players, stopping at a number of my choosing? if so, i have to change my entry haha
2 quick questions---does all the damage have to be directly as a result of the team attack, or does something like Surprise Attack while the team attack is happening count?
And does damage that the attacker takes count in the total? :)

Sorry for the confusion, I'm still working out the kinks in this. Keep asking questions if I keep confusing you.
oh yeah, I forgot to say this. Don't be afraid to send me multiple solutions. If you send in a solution, then find a better one, go ahead and send it in. Now, don't go too overboard with this, make sure you think the solution out before you send it. I only have so much time to check these, so I can get overwhelmed, but I don't want you to feel like you can't send in a better solution because you already sent one. Have fun with it, and let's see how crazy we can get.
Another thing to clear up. As I state in the quote below, the damage must be done by you.

The challenge does not factor in effects that the opponent uses on himself that would do more damage to him. So, no having your opponent use Surprise Attack on himself (this is for if you're going for most damage within the attack). I won't give any more examples in fear of giving something away, but if you have questions on a particular card, PM me. I'll try and PM you if there's something in your solution that doesn't work, but I go through a lot of solutions, so there's only so much I can do.
