Okay, get there, sign up for the event. I get my cards, but a playmat was awarded to the PC Indy 10k winner (Chuck I think his name is) wins the mat.
I open my packs and get Kooey Kooey Kooey, Crisis (Foil), Creeper, and a few other cards: No Wonder Woman, Superman, Batman, Flash; got both Aquaman (7 and 3 drop), 3 is AR art. +1/+2 if opponent has no KO'd cards. Ally works with that as well. The most noticable card is Scarecrow, yes Scarecrow. Not the one shown, but the unshown one:
Scarecrow - Psycho Psychologist
5 - drop/Injustice Gang
9 A/9 D
Pay 3 endurance > Target player loses X endurance, where X is the number of cards in his hand. Only during combat, once per turn.
Boost 1: When Scarecrow comes into play, opponent draws 3 cards, and put 3 +1/+1 counters on Scarecrow.
Just wow. I lost 27 endurance in SP #2 in Monroe thanks to this guy right here. Mainly cuz he had Lex Luthor (3-drop).
Anyway, onto the event
Round 1
I get really bad draws until T-6 where I Boost Scarecrow, and gets me back into the game. I still lose.
Round 2 (The round I won my playmat)
Okay, announces how to win a Door Prize (This is Lv.2 Judge Chad, so no surprises here). How to win: Either play 3 consecutively costing characters (ie 1, 2, 3 drops in order), or Use an old effect (IE Boost, Evasion, Leader, Reservist...). Okay, people argued against evasion, but I was like, it's an old effect. So, I get odd initiatives, play a resource, Manhunter Clone, use his Evasion ability, and get my JLA PLAYMAT! :) Oh, btw, I lost again :(
I drop seeing as how I couldn't win product (only 4 rounds, with 19 peeps).
We have a 2nd event, I get WW-Avatar, go 1-2, and trade it for MM EA.
So, not a bad event, I didn't get a lot of power-ups (2 I think, 0 in the 1st flight).
If you missed this one, it was pretty cool, spacious too. I got 2 sets of Stackers, General Fabrikant (Anti-Matter), which allows while visible, your Hidden Attackers to not be stunned. But, that's about it.
My thoughts:
JLA is a power-up oriented set. I mean, Combat PHases take longer now thanks to constant power-up'ing for characters. But, not much difference in terms of Constructed yet, or Sealed in general. It just seems that way.
Injustice Gang decks will be focused around Scarecrow (EVIL LITTLE MONKEY MAN!), since that's what they seem to be about. I could see this team Top Tier really quick.
Props
- Chad to having the 2nd round condition so I got my playmat (IT took about 5 seconds too)
- Guy who allowed me to trade 3 cards for $10 to enter SP #2
- Guy who traded me MM-8 for WW-Avatar
- Scarecrow
You only got 19 people? Jeez, we got 75ish for MAV in Greensboro last time. Oh well, I'm going tomorrow, gonna win me some deck boxes, mats, good JLI stuff, and probably trade for some NTZs (hopefully:ermm: )
Greensboro will have A LOT more people. This was this place's first SP event, and will probably get more next time. I mean, this place can hold about... well... they were talking about 250 for a Yu-Gi-Oh! regional there.
Originally posted by EvilBaby its the way the door prizes were handed out. I'm pretty sure you can't hand out prizes based on who plays what. Its all supposed to be random
I think the way Chad does it is really creative and makes things even more fun. Giving them out randomly is boring, making us jump through hoops to get them is better :)
Originally posted by Lord-Doom Plus, I think it's more fair than just giving it out randomly. Let the players decide who gets the prizes, not the judge.
I don't see this as fair at all. Fair is everyone having an equal chance at a prize.
Unfair is the 3 players that play one drops, and the 2 players that have a 1 drop with evasion only getting a chance at a prize.

if it didnt happen turn 1, it would have happened turn 2 with some of the evil evasion guys.
I mean I played in the Roanoke SP and won a playmat for getting 10 breakthrough on a kid. The only downside to this instead of just "random" handouts is that people get distracted..but hey, its a fun event and I had fun.

It seems the only people that think this is 'not fair' are the people who didn't win any of the door prizes ;)
But another thing is sometimes you have to choose between keeping a solid game going, or diverging to get those extra prizes. If you evade this guy on 4, you take a lot of damage to the face. You would get your prize, but possibly lose the match. So you have to make the decision; will you top 8 and be guaranteed to get that playmat, or throw this game since you know you can't make top 8?
Randomly is better, I dont care if so and so brought his GF to play to get another shot at a door prize so be it.
IF you win something as a door prize and then end up in the top eight your prize gets door prized off again.
It happened to me and Avengers and JLA I was randomly picked for a door prize playmat and I finished in the tops to get the swag but my other playmat got door prized off to another lucky person who got a chance to get something.
This evasion stuff, or whatever disrupts the game. and should not be they way to do it.
Everyone should have an equal chance, beginner or pro at winning door prizes. It lets the newer people feel more involved and excited, even if they sell it off to their buddy or whatever
