I don't play with all the good Edgeworld players because I am lazy and don't want to drive for 2 hours. So I was fortunate enough to PM w/Majestic a couple times and he helped me solidify my build. Thanks a bunch to Foilball and Majestic.
Mistakes:
Scarlet Witch--I was concerned about New School. Grodd steals Doom w/Power Compressor if I need to Ghost Rider on 8 to prevent scary Dr. Light action on 9. Ghost Rider beats infinite Press. That's all i need if I don't get Apoc. GG New School, you didn't have a chance. This was a wasted slot and should have been ProfX.
More Breaking Ground--Should probably find room for 1 more, mebbe take out a Rain of Acorns. Or maybe not. The card is necessary, but not something you want to search for more than once. I think that BG and RoA count should=3, but I'm not sold on my conclusion yet. Better players built the deck and I defer to them.
No ProfX--Wins the mirror on 8. If you don't know why, just play it out.
Still up in the air:
Will World--this card is crazygoodtimes when you get it early AND you don't have the tools to fight rush decks. The problem is, rush decks should be running KaBoom and not Foiled. Team-up decks tend to be able to protect their team-ups, locations, not so much. I would put it in my deck if there was more Squadron and less Titans in SoCal. YMMV.
Chopping Block--Can win the mirror or chop Lex on 3, but I'm not sure that either of these things are really worth the spot. It probably belongs in there and that would keep the BG + RoA=2 like the standard build.
Good choices:
+1 Home Surgery--Board position is good. The deck runs a lot of 1 and 2 drops, and Malvolio gives you mad endurance gain with this card getting back Black Hand or Olapet on 5 or somthing like that. Martian Manhunter is an allstar with this card.
-1 Birthing Chamber--This is kind of a "win more" card for turns 5-7. Sure, you need to draw more recovery cards and search cards, but Book of Oa does this better. I never regretted not drawing this.
Martian Manhunter5--This beats DIG. They don't destroy you with burn, but All Too Easy. Reinforced Malvolio on 5 and reinforced Lex on 6 (use Grodd to take Lex w/Malvolio) means you have a pretty good chance of pulling this off. He is also the only viable attacker you have before turn 6. Plus, he is weird and people don't realy know what to do against him.
Gorilla Grodd--MVP for the demoralization effect. Stealing Lex3 is mission critical to beating DIG. Grodd'ing Golden Fletcher is pretty important, too, as Katma Tui gets you a measly 5 to their 6 and Nuke is very strong against her. Or so it goes in theory. Basically, sometimes Sinestro is suboptimal, and I love Grodd, so in he went.
Ghostrider8--Ends.The.Game. Against a lot of decks (DIG, Titans, JLA, JLI, New School in a Doom8 situation because you won't have to worry about Power Compressor), he is the turn 8 play you search for if you don't draw Apoc. I think this guy is so good off inish that I may take out Mogo for him. I hate Roy shooting Sinestro that much. Crazy, I know--but hey, I never said I was good (cough, thanks round H and I opponents, cough).
Take this all with a grain of salt. I played 13 games and went 9-4 all day, losing to the mirror against Billy, Ron's DIG 2 times and Squadron once. Ghostrider may be a "win more" card, but I don't think Blackout is better than Martian Manhunter and Grodd against DIG. Blackout just stops them from winning that turn--he certainly doesn't help you advance your game.
Thanks again to the quality opponents I played against and the staff of SCGE. I think the deck is a bit unethical, as it -can- stall out to win on endurance, but I don't play like that (hence some of the card choices that will end the game in 30 minutes). Although it did take me 45 minutes to beat Ron in Game 1 of the finals, I may have won game 3 if we had another 45 minutes. Selah.
If anyone was curious, the highest my life ended at was 93 on turn 8, before recovery. And in the mirror, I lost 85 to 90 life.
I F'n love this ! Players trying to meta against GLock and GLock players changing thier deck successfuly to counter , freakin great ! Galtwish Ghost Rider is better than Scarecrow on 8 against NS , in your opinion if you don't drop Apoc ? I like Scarecrow because his effect is when he comes into play and is not activated... discuss with me please.
Scarecrow doesn't do as much. I don't need a beater, and I especially don't need someone to be able to use the System Failure that has been in their row since turn 3. I considered Scarecrow before JLA and found him wanting, and afterwards Ghost Rider was just much better. Many off curve decks, many with dangerous 4s and 5s. That said, I don't know if the deck even needs Ghost Rider against anything other than Titans or weird situations with DIG.
I really loved this PCQ. i had the most fun at this one then any in a really long time. Erik, you held a magnicient event and i cant wait to see you guys at the 10k/ sneak peek.
I would like to thank all the players who made it an hour earlier for Sealed (you guys got to leave well before 6pm).
I would like to thank all the Constructed players who dealt with the later start due to the space issue... and of course for the space issue itself. Gem's is a great store, just not suited for almost 100 people in there at the same time while it's raining.
The next PCQ is at Costa Mesa Women's Center and I've just been told that the Sneak Preview for X-Men will also be there so we will have lots of space.
Also... for the next 2 events... I plan to have some Gunslingers so bring your extra decks to test your skill against some of this game's finest players.
