We've been a little light on 10k's of late, but the pcq's are showing us the most varied meta I've seen.
Things you might see at your local PCQ:
-Avengers
-Squadron No Hand (call it what you will - Chicken Supreme or Taco Sauce, I don't care)
-Faces of Evil
-Gleevil/MOEGLEE/Glasters of Evil
-GLEE Stall/Glock
-Injustice Gang
-Injustice Gang/Doom
-Anti Green Lanterns
-Teen Titans
-Common Enemy
-Child lock in it's many forms
-New School and the MK variants
And these are just the most common choices.
You could also see:
-Curve Sentinels (someone still plays them I'm sure)
-Marvel Knights
-League of Assassins
-Gamma Doom
-Wild Vomit
-Solitare
-Spider Friends
-Arkham/Brothehood
-Kang City
-TNB
I'm sure I've missed some, and that was twenty two decks.
It actually is. I was at the local FNM (Friday Night Magic) and talked to some of the players in between rounds. I got them hooked. I think I got about 8 players to get that urge to play. Even though 3 or 4 had played Vs and quit back in the Origins days, I told them about the various prize support for PC and great metagame. I think they were a lot happier with the diverse metagame more than anything. I guess this shows how much effort was actually put into making this game from a stale stack of cards to an enjoyable game that can never stay in one place. At first they were skeptical, then I pulled out all my decks (about 14) and they started to play. At the Guildpact (magic set) Prerelease they were all anxious to play VS in between rounds. They liked that none of the decks beat every single one, and how the game has come from combat based decks to multiple stratgies that are very solid. I know I just rambled but in conclusion, the meta itself has brought people into the game, that has to say something about how well this game is developing.
I would definitely tack Big Brotherhood onto that first list as well. That sucker got new life from JLA and seems to be popping up alot more everywhere.
It feels to me like the game is finally old enough to walk. Enough players have played enough games to say "Enough is enough!" to the archaic idea that one deck rules them all. When the Pro Circuit made it's first pass at history, the winners were dead set on consistency as God. Now we have enough cards to kill even the most bankable idols.
The Healthy Meta, indeed. Long live The Healthy Meta.
Me and a friend were just talking about how bizarre the meta at our shop is- nobody plays the crazy popular decks listed above, so it really messes with how you build you deck.
