wats going on out there.this is the thing i used to play VS alot when it first came out.but i joined the Marines and i havent played or kept up wit it in a long time. the last thing i remember was the hidden factor came into play.ive been reading alot of the forums but theres some things im not caught up on.not shore wat decks r out or abilities in the game.so any word that would help me get back in the game would b appreciated. thanx
Well, if you left with the introduction of Hidden, that means Marvel Knights right ? I'll try and get you caught up a little :
After Marvel Knights was Green Lantern ( expansion abbreviation - DGL ) . This se introduced Willpower, Concealed-Optionald and Construct . Willpower and Construct don't mean anything by themeselves, but they are referenced by other cards ( see two-drop Kyle Rayner and Oa for example ). Concealed-Optional simply means the character can come into play in either the visible area or hidden area. Major decks to come out of this set - GLEE, a weenie willpower rush via a team-up between and Emerald Enemies and Green Lanterns that tried to utilize Dr. Light 3-drop to his maximum potential. G'Lock is a similar deck that has dominated a lot of tournaments recently, except that it is a stall deck that uses cards like Rain of Acorns and Catcher's Mitt to make it to later turns to drop a big character like Apocalypse or Hal Jordan <> Parallax. Anti-Green Lanterns would become prominent after the release of Justice League consideriblt increased the viability of the Anti-Matter affiliation .
Green Lantern also saw the meteoric rise of Light Show (Rama-Light ) , a combo deck based around Dr. Light, Rama-Tut, Devil's Due and various other cards that could consistently pull of a turn 3 win via an infinite combo. This deck was so good that UDE took action by errataing the combo out of existence. This deck nearly destroyed the health of the metagame, so it's demise is generally seen as positive by the community.
After Green Lantern came Avengers, which introduced characters recruitable from the resource row ( Reservist ) and Leader, a character trait that grants adjacent characters bonuses just for being next to a Leader. Team-up is another version type like Construct that is referenced by other cards ( Beast 1 drop for example ) .
There are quite a few deck archetypes to come out of this set that have impacted the Metagame . Chicken Supreme, a Squadron Supreme curve/rush that relies on the no-hand theme of the affiliation ( and splashing Joystick from Thunderbolts ) to get massive characters on the board very early on. This deck sometimes also has an equipment subtheme to try and abuse Tom Thumb at two and because equipments are a great way to quickly reduce one's hand size. Avengers and Reserve also became very popular for the combat tricks of its characters and the quality attack pumps available to it. Faces of Evil, named after the Team-Up card for the Masters of Evil and Thunderbolts, became popular as well for its speed and consistency ( thanks to cards like Beetle 2-drop, Rita Del Mare , Mystic Summons, etc. ) . Dr. Light also featured prominently in this deck in the Golden Age format .
Justice League introduced Ally which grants bonuses every time you power-up a character. Reservist and Leader, introduced in the last set, also featured prominently in this set. The JLA were the team to feature Ally the most, and team-uped with the JLI became the Good Guys deck, aka World's Greatest Heroes, a deck that recently did well at 10k San Francisco and used both the Ally theme of the JLA and the 4-resource theme of the JLI. Injustice Gang hand-filling decks have also done well, and has often been teamed with Doom in Golden Age to form a viable control/burn deck. Anti-Green Lantern decks became popular with Justice League thanks in large part to Chomin, which enabled AGL players to keep their namesake cards in play for later turns. Two major builds of this deck are currently popular - The Felix Faust build which abuses Felix Faust to form a massive rush on turn 4, and the Speedster build, which uses Johnny Quick and Slipstream along with the Thunderous Onslaught/Matter Convergence combo to attack repeatidly on turn 3 or 5 . Nth Metal and Kelex also allowed Big Brotherhood to make somewhat of a comeback in certain metas.
Fnally, X-men. Mutant Traits were introduced in this set, and much like Willpower and Construct before it, it is useful only by the fact that it is referenced by other cards . Since no major tournament has yet to be played with the set ( PC Atlanta will be the first major event to feature the set ) , it has yet to be determined what affect it will have on the metagame.
